Hey guys, Finally we got ski thread. I ski at Sundown in Dubuque Iowa or Snowstar.

I was wondering what is the right skis and boots for freeskii and downhill? I'm not new, I've ski a lot of times. So I'm looking for an affordable skis and boots for that category.

Thanks.

I've got a ton lying around, and a scraper sharpener I found in this tuning room at some random hotel.
I've got a set of red creek brushes that attach to a drill. So much faster and easier than scraping.

Added you to members list.

As for skis and boots, it's mostly preference. Go to your local shop and they would be able to help you find boots. As for skis, look into K2 and LINE. They make some really good skis and they probably have what you are looking for.

Yeah. I can carve and do a lot of rails and boxes, just not hit jumps. I never snowboard either, I think it comes naturally since I skateboard and always have.

Oh, and I've never gotten the same feeling out of a roto-brush than a hand brush :/. I usually stick to hand brushing.

I learned to snowboard back when i was younger and I ended up buying a board and everything. I picked it up pretty quick and got good, but I skied way more so I sold my board.

those are nice skis, but i'll tell ya, those marker bindings are heavy. I have a pair on my volkl t50s. You may be able to get him down in price a little bit, but go for it.

I learned to ski, skiied another year, switched to snowboarding, did that for a few years, then bought a pair of snowblades, got back into skiing, then bought twin-tips last season and I'm currently skiing.

I'm thinking about just trading in my all-mountain skis and just getting a pair at a local shop. I'm not really big on buying from craigslist for my first pair of twin tips.

Thanks Killa X, i appericate it.

I have grind on rails but I've done it very sloppy but how can you get on smooth or get on it nicely and get it to the end? Also I was wondering what wax I should if I get skis soon. What about bindings too?

Thanks!

my friend gave me a scraper that was kinda shaped like this I(

so wax gets all high up on the center of my skis, and god i was just down in my basement hand brushing the **** out of my new skis since i have to do 6 layers of base prep. got 4 layers done, ima do the final layer tomorow, then put on some CH6 and myabe head out to the hill

when we were at states last year, everyone was using the roto thing. that thing looked like it worked so good on brushing since u could clearly see the dirty/clean part divisions in the ski when u used that thing. the ski base would instantly turn black when the roto touched it and the part ahead of the roto was greyish

grinding, oh boy. the best advice i could give you is keep your weight 60% front foot, 40% back. Get some decent speed cause nothing is worse than stopping halfway on the rail and falling off. Pop off the lip and turn your shoulders. At that point, you should have most of your weight towards your lead foot. As you come down on the rail, bend your knees to embrace the impact. Keep your weight over your feet and slide the rail. Practice on small, flat rails and once you feel comfortable, you can move up to longer rails and even kinked rails (which are a bit harder).

wax- swix wax will never fail ya. Can get a bit pricey, but in my opinion, definately worth it. If you plan on waxing your own skis, you gotta have the right equipment. The basics are wax, an iron and a scraper. For the iron you can get a beat up old iron or you could splurge and get a nice iron that has heat control. Scrapes are basic. Zumiez probably would have a board scrape that would work fine for skis.

bindings- lots of good companies to look at including salomon, marker and rossingnol. I'd stay away from lower end markers, but maybe the jesters or the griffons would work. I haven't had any expirience with them yet, but I've heard many good things. My new skis have the griffons so once i get a chance to ski on them for a bit, I'll write a review.

hopefully i answered your questions, I'm running off of 4 hours of sleep and about 10 mountain dews.

-Cody
