Will I be in hot water for this?

In my quest to make damned sure that I'm not relying solely on the GI Bill to pay for my college tuition, I was looking through scholarships, and found one which is rewarded to LGBTs and friends of such people who make an effort to reduce homophobia in their area. I happen to have a friend who's gay, and am hoping I could BS my way in the essay to make it sound like I've helped reduce homophobia as a result of being his friend. It's $500 a year, which is quite a bit of cash.

Now the problem is, would this get me in trouble and be considered a declaration of homosexuality given the nature of the scholarship?

Not if you're just presenting yourself as someone who is "reducing homophobia"

Agreed you should be fine.

Other sources of income, look in to Pell Grants, your GI BIll does not count as income and since you are veteran you do not haveto claim your parents income if under 25. So that means you income is what ever money you make on the side, which I doubt is that much so you qualify for teh largest Pell grant amount (used to be $3,000 but more than likely higher now) of free money.

Also check with AARP and VFW for Veternas only scholarships.

The new GI bill starting next fall should be more thanenough money for you to go to school... assuming you are a veteran with at least 3 years active duty. I really don't see why you wouldn't think the money would stretch..

I want to put as much of the GI Bill away into savings as I can to fund my career plans. Thanks for the info.

And I'm just a lowly E1 reservist .

They are changing(or changed?) the GI Bill (or so I've I heard) so they pay the college directly, instead of you (the middle man). So it would work more like tuition assistance.

Actually under the new plan they will pay the university for your tuition, then they will also pay you the 'BAH' money.

Yes

Everyone knows they'd blow buffalo for a nickle a herd to get their self respect back, too.
