I'd also say, based on the fact he's playing flammed sixteenth notes and triplets at about 160 bpm. and he's working up a sweat and gritting his teeth, that he did play his own part, just he wasn't very good. My percussion teacher was offered a job as an adviser for that movie but after hearing the plot, declined. Everyone in the movie actually played.
