Actually they aren't. There were plenty of awful movies when you were a kid, I remember because I was a kid when movies like Aladdin and the Lion King were big. Kids today have Pixar which has given them:
-Monsters Inc
-The Incredibles
-Wall-E
-Finding Nemo
-Ratatouille
-Toy Story 1&2
-A Bug's Life
And I have seen some pretty good kids movies too:
-Over the Hedge
-Kung Fu Panda (boring moral, but pretty entertaining)
-Cars (campy but whatever)
-Shrek (first one was ok)
-Flushed Away
-The Pacifier
So yeah, there is a lot of crap, but there was crap when we were younger too. There are also a hell of a lot more kids movies being released now than there were back in the early 90's. There is also the emergence of the Disney channel and shows like Hannah Montana, That's so Raven, High School Musical, etc. Those shows appeal to tweens more than kids, but the tween market is more valuable so a lot of money has been invested in this area.
