I had both also. I did more helo work then Airborne work. I made my monthly jumps to stay current and a few extra when in Panama, but all that said. I enjoyed the Air Assult course, the Airborne school was just kinda run of the mill to me.

=JackH;51941271]Matter of opinion, but I thoughy charging in on the skits of a little bird or fast roping out a black hawk Black Hawk Down style was pretty fun

Mind if I ask where you did little bird work at?

ahhh, I was wondering. I thought maybe they used them within the Ranger Training now.
I work with the 160th Chinook, and IDAP configuration, but not the little bird. I thought that would have been pretty cool.

I've never been to Air Assault school, however, have done plenty of fast ropes. As far as jumping, I've been in Airborne units for the past 8-9 years. Jump school jumps are easy and an opportunity to get out of the bird and not have to deal with the hassles of jumping with an abn unit.

I have heard only stories about how hard and a pain it is to jump ien-mass with an Airborne unit. I was lucky in the fact I was part of mostly special operations support units and we only did small scale jumps.
Even then it seems like a huge effort to get things done, cant even dream of how hard it would be with a huge unit like those in the 82nd or 173rd.

Only time I jump now is out of Casa212's and I'm in the harness for maybe 20 minutes. That's the way I like it. Even mass tac with 1-75 wasn't as bad as when I was a safety for a bird from the 82nd.

I have done both jumps and fast rope in the Q course. I like both they both do have their uses. Heko jumos are a lot of fun though.

HALO is always going to be used. although it takes such a long time to be put into the school. personally i would try to do both in my lifetime. if i were you i would start with jump school to build a foundation and then either try to get into Ranger school or SFAS because both of those will teach you air assault tactics eventually. im training right now to prepare myself for O.C.S. then hopefully either ranger shcool or SFAS
