So depending on which one you are, your leadership will choose for you.. you see Weapons Platoons become Line Platoons so they carry weapons just like the rifleman and just drop the heavy guns

What do all of you look for in a gun, and what would it take to like...replace what you use now?

I've always thought that the Tavor bullpup from Israel is just a damn sexy assault rifle looks like it has good ergonomics too, but I've never held one so w/e I guess lol...although Israel seems to know what they're doing.

there is all this talk of replacing the m-16 i just dont see it happening the rifle has been used since the late 60s and is still going strong
it was revolutionary due to the small bullet and light weight compared tot he m-14 or garand and it was more accurate than the m1or m2 carbine
the only thing i see happening to the m-16 design is possibly them being converted to a piston system like the ak it is just a more reliable design but there are problems with using it on the 20 inch barrel or maybe the military upgrading the round to something like the 6.8mm spc
it would just be such an effort to replace the entire us militar with a new rifle i see them doing more of upgrades than replacing
im not in the army yet but very well could be in the next year or two but i am a gun nut so...
did you guys have any problems with the berreta? any issues with the 9mm its self?
also what does it take to take a personal sidearm into combat? is it still allowed? i have a friend who took his 1911 .45 to the first gulf war the only thing his co said was "im sorry to tell you this sgt. but we didnt bring any .45 rounds" he replied "its ok sir i brought plenty of my own" sure enough he had 500 rounds of .45 ball ammo with him

I'm a fan of bolt-action rifles, actually.... even though I use an M4 in the military. The long rifle is just my preference.

I would like to see a gas piston conversion for the M4s.. if anything just for the ease of cleaning the weapon.

god yes but even just for the ease of cleaing would increase reliability due to two things
1 the gun would be cleaner and would stay that way longer with out all the carbon from the gas system building up in it
2 the piston stops gas from going inside it making it so you have to clean out the part of the carrier or bolt or what ever it is im not up to my ar/m16/m4 terminology

I read somewhere that it can be configured for a lefty without any customization since it has ejector ports built on both sides...I know about the lefty issue since my dad is a lefty...my grandpa told me once about my dad shooting his m1(now mine lol) with his left hand and having a nice hot 30-06 casing smacking him in the forehead lol.

Those look great, but the Army would never have the money to replace all our rifles with expensive HKs. I can also think of the brass not being excited about replacing a US made service rifle with a foreign one..

For Army, it is in FM 3-21.8, although it is really up to your leadership. Gimme a sec and I'll find the exact place.

HK does have a few guns accepted in the US
MP5
G-36
USP socom and tactical models
maybe the PSG-1 rifle
and i think in some cases, the P91 (.308 rifle similar to a FAL)
