ok so i was woundering how to tell if an electric guitar is better than another one. This is the one i have (red)

I like it and think it is fine but is it actualy considered any good?( i bet people say no) so how do you figure out if guitars are better than others. Should I get/look into a new one? A preferance would be any brand, under 300$, Still looks awesome, can have a whammy bar
on another note how do distortion pedals able to with any guitar and amp? And how do you connect them?
