your most likely not going to win, so be a good sport and don't argue with refs, it builds a good rep which will help you in later events

i actually have to disagree with what a lot of people here are saying:

a good part of this game is purely psychological...if you go in expecting to lose, guess whats going to happen...

but if you go in there with confidence, not only are you going to perform better, but so will the other members of your team...and your confidence will also "psyche-out" the other team...

if you can convince the other team that you are better than they are...then you will have the advantage...

now this does not mean that you walk around all day like a pompous jack-***...it means that you and your team show up early, be good sports, and act professional.

if you do happen to lose, be mature about it and accept the loss. it is also a sign of good sportsmanship to congratulate the other team after the game(win or lose).

just remember to relax and have a good time.

If its open division, your probably gonna get destroyed. If its divisional make sure your in the lowest division and watch out for sandbagers.

practice within a week before the tournament. run drills, play games, etc. then don't wash your clothes. it keeps paint from sticking. make sure everything is working. don't go to win. go out there to have fun. the odds way against your winning 1st.

you're gonna want to pratice alot and don't expect to win most teams don't win their first tourny so don't be to dissapointed if it happens but don't let it get to you play your best no matter what.
Never argue with the refs (they have the power to suspend you for a game or two or even the entire tourny)make sure your gun, hopper, air tank, etc etc
all have no problems the night before, don't drink cofee (you'd be amazed at how fast your body turns it into acid!)and double check to make sure you have all of your gear in your gearbag.

thats about all i can think of

Here's a few tips that have helped me have an enjoyable time at many tournaments over the years. There's a lot, so get comfortable.

What ever you do, don't do ANY modifications or changes to your gear the night before the tournament. Something WILL go wrong. Last time I did that I showed up at the tourament with a gun that would not chrono above 200fps. So make sure you play a full day of paintball (open play, practice, woodsball, doesn't matter as long as you're shooting) with your current gear setup before showing up at the tournament. That way you won't have any suprises.

On the same note, bring spares of EVERYTHING. Spare masks, hoppers, guns, tanks, whatever you own or can borrow. A walmart special blowback is better than no gun at all when your primary breaks. Plus it's standard Murphy's law. If you don't have a spare, it will break. If you have 3 backups, you'll never need them (this seems to work the opposite of large scenario games, where if you bring 3 backups you end up needing them All).

Always be early. Show up early so you can get the good staging area (as close to the fields and fill station as possible). Be early to the captains meeting so you don't miss anything. Be early at your designated field, they WILL NOT wait for you.

Chrono early, chrono often. A hot gun penalty will totally screw your score. A lot of guns will have their velocity go up during a game, so it's not a bad idea to chrono 15-20 fps low.

Depending on the number of teams, the preliminary rounds may be easy. If there are 18 teams entered, and the top 16 move to the next round (they should tell you this kind of thing at the captains meeting), then you obviously don't have to max every game in the prelims, you just have to do better than 2 teams. So don't let any loses freak you out, since in the next round the scores are reset and it's like they never happened. I remember one tournament where my team was near the bottom of the ranking in the prelims, but we Maxed every game in the finals and won. I also remember kicking butt in the prelims, but we were totally worn out and so we got demolished in the finals.

Watch as many games as possible, especially teams you're scheduled to face. You'll notice that a team will do the same thing game after game. Use that knowledge to your advantage. You'll learn a lot too.
