For starters, this is NOT a gun bashing or gun Hyping thread- just a list of facts and data. Leave flaming/bashing/Hyping to someplace else - i.e. like the kindergarden.
Angel One
Picture of stock model:
Date of release:
Fall of 2006.
Manufacturer:
APS- Angel Paintball Sports, formerly known as WDP. Same company, just changed the name.
Website:
http://www.angelpaintballsports.com
Place of manufacture:
Mainland China. APS had their plant moved there 2006, so same machines different location. Just like most other paintball gun manufacturers today, just more honest about it.
Place of R&D:
Still England!
Weight:
Stock weight with an average 9v battery is 987 grams without the barrel and 1063 grams with barrel.
Paint gentleness:
Very high.
Maximum rate of fire:
With stock gun and unlimited ramp: beyond 34 bps sustained for a full second with a Q-loader, possibly with a considerable margin with lighter aftermarket parts. With stock gun and a normal stock reloader B on moderate settings it's usually 25+ bps even at high eye delay unless Dwell is set excessively high.
Manual:
http://www.wdp.tv/angel1/angel1manual.pdf
Gun Diagram:
Runs on what air system output:
Preferably LP, but needs to be between min 450 psi to Max 800 psi or gun will get reduced performance.
Optimal air system output pressure range: 450-630 psi.
Operating pressure:
Stock settings: 280 psi HPR/ 60 psi LPR,
With magnovalve: 180-220 HPR and 45-50 LPR.
Dwell:
Stock settings: 7-9 ms, but the gun is fully 5.5 ms enabled when run in, still all stock.
Dwell with Magnovalve: as low as 5.5 ms
NOTE ON DWELL:
There's some controversy as to whether the A1 can actually run at the lowest board setting of 4 ms dwell. At least some A1 guns have been able to run at as low as 4 ms (i.e. mine does) problem free with aftermarket lightweight hammers , although the MTs say some A1 guns can get an eye fault from doing this and APS doesn't guarantee it'll work for the user.
If you're into lowest possible Dwell settings on your gun, watch for this possible fault and if it appears adjust dwell slightly up accordingly.
Stock bolt weight:
11 grams.
Kick:
Kick stock: Low but you can just feel it. The stock setup Gen 2 A1 has a slightly lower kick than a stock setup EGO 08. Gen 1 was slightly higher.
Kick with magnovalve: Gone!
Efficiency:
Stock: 1200-1500 shots off a 68/4500 psi tank. Depends on paint-to barrel match, tuning and Dwell setting if you get good efficiency or not.
With magnovalve: 1850+ off a 68/4500
Accuracy:
With stock barrel set: Excellent.
Note1: Whether this is only because of the excellent stock barrel set or has something to do with the gun pneumatics you be the judge.
Note2: Most, if not all tournament players used to other guns that I've borrowed an A1 to have said this gun is more accurate than what they've shot before. You be the judge of that too. Barrels, gun, who cares which. But this is the response I've gotten even from typically "Angel-hostile" players. I do not claim anything either way, I'm just relating what they said.
Alleged problems:
The
currently marketed
Gen II Angel One is
NOT prone to any known problems.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special features:
- Self-cleaning eyes
A gas puff vents through small holes on the sides of the bolt with each shot and out aroud the eye sensors and removes all paint residue from it. This enables full eye function for the next shot directly after a paintbreak in the breech without squeegie cleaning. In fact, the eyes become
exactly as they were before the break, not half-dirty like even a thorough squeegie or even swabbing will give on other guns that don't have a self-clean function (only A1 and DM currently have this). Clean like most other guns when you take the eyes out of the body and clean them. This gives instant full eye function on the field even after a mishap and also helps keep the eye sensor lenses clean of aggressively miscoloring and degrading paint often giving them a longer lifespan than most other eyes.
- OLED
The menu display is an OLED color display with very low power useage, same as on most modern cell phones. It also comes with a blackberry style thumb-operation and user friendly menu.
- USB connector on board
USB
A-to-Mini-B compatible for board software upgrades. Easy to use at home or anywhere with a modern PC, internet access and a USB cord.
A-to-Mini-B cords are commonly used with digital cameras, but are also used for many other electronics equipment. The modern USB II version is recommended for fast and problem free software flash. You may well already own one, but if not they are easily available at any well stocked electronics outlet or computer store for about $10-20.
- Soft nose bolt
Gives a much softer impact on the ball so the front won't ever crack a fully loaded ball on impact. This is unique to Angel One and gives some of that extra paint gentleness.
- Rollback removal twistknob function
Twist knob on the back of the gun pushes the RAM shaft forward to lock the breech block and move the bolt face forward into the breech. No rollback means the second ball on top of the breech loaded ball isn't pinched in the shot cycle or hit by the top of the bolt. Mainly this reduces barrel breaks from semi-fractured balls and also reduces breech bottom breaks from broken bottom balls.
- Bolt top angled face
This further removes any risk of direct impact on the bottom of the second ball in the breech/neck. This angled top is also unique to Angel One and gives some of that extra paint gentleness.
-Rotor breech
The unique
Angel breech function means that the midsection of the top tube is hinged and swings open for easy access to clean the bolt and breech area as well as source of leak deduction and valve function check.
