I don't think I've ever done this, and If I have, I was probably a big nubcake. So here's how I'll do it: I will type a little thing up on the different parts, and then put my choice(s) at the end in parenthesis.

1. Bolt: A bolt is a very important upgrade, there are a lot of them. the stock bolt is very heavy, causing massive kick... and not to mention is inefficient. Different bolts are good for different things though. The L6 is the most efficent, because of two tail O-rings. The DW hollowpoint, and the new V2 L7 bolt are the same weight now so are pretty much in a dead tie for cycle rate and recoil. Any of those three are my choices. (L6, L7, hollowpoint)
2. Board: A board, In my opinion, is not a really needed upgrade. If you play in a league that requires a ramping setting then fine, but otherwise it's just flashy lights and modes you won't use. Despite this, my favorite board would have to be the APE Rampage board. It's back up to 130 now, but that's with good reason. The solenoid and hoses were just redesigned for higher pressures, and I believe the keypad was improved too. This board has infinite options, and the keypad is great. (APE Rampage)
3. Trigger: Triggers are 100% preference. You need to try them out for yourself and decide.
4. Regulator: The stock ion regulator (on most guns) is good. It is pretty consistent, and you won't get drop off with it if you keep it nice and lubed up. Some people end up with a **** one though, so in that case get a Dye Hyper 2. The price is really low now, and this this is +/= 1 or 2 at the chrono. (Dye Hyper II)
5. Feedneck: All feednecks work the same, just stay away from the twist locks and the Powerlyte. This should be your first upgrade.
6. ASA: There are a million of these. Get something with Purge, and an on/off. There are lots of different dropforwards and rail, try a bunch out to see what you like.
7. Barrel:
8. Air Source (tank): Any tank will work with the Ion, Low Pressure or high. The problem with low pressure is that you can get major drop off if it doesn't have a really good regulator on it. I recommend sticking to high pressure, and getting a Carbon Fiber tank for the weight. CO2: You really should not use this unless you live in Nowheres ville, and absolutely can not get an air tank filled. You must either use Anti-Siphon on your regular co2 tank (your proshop can install it for you, very cheap) or use a remot line. DO NOT use both.
9. Body: The Luck Stage 5, Stage 5.1, Trinity 08, and TechT Sleeper bodies are the true BOB ones. I recommend those.
10. Detents: Kila Magnetic Detents. No contest. Stay away from springs.
11. Trigger Frame: There are a bunch, and they all function the same (basically...) Pick which you like the looks of best.
12. Grips: Again, preference.
13. QEV: Clippard style for efficiency and SP 360 for ease. They both work great, you probably won't notice much of a performance difference between the two.
14. Gun Lubricant: Anything dow 33. NO OIL... EVER. NO DOW 55... EVER.

*QEV isnt too great, and doesnt give you the best air efficiency. If you plan on using a new bolt, pick up a SP 360 QEV too to get the best performance out of your bolt.
*A new bolt is a must in my book, the stock one has too much kick and it isnt very efficient. Honestly, i dont hype the firebolt, SmartParts does that enough... the truth is the bolt is honestly not close to any of the best ION gear out there... its just something SmartParts made so they could sell an aftermarket bolt. I recommend the L7 or Hollowpoint.
*Feedneck would probably be a good investment, unless your hopper can fit in ur feedneck fine... my vlocity fits perfectly.
*Barrels are always a good upgrade. Stock barrels arent great, and for the ION its a must if u want to keep up with high end markers. I'd suggest an orbium3, ti longbow, boomstick, or a scepter kit.... depending on ur preferences.
*The bodykit is a must because the plastic **** is just low quality, there is no back out so you cant access the bolt without completely taking apart ur gun, and it makes ur marker look like it came from KMart. I got the powerlyte 07 fade body, but there are so many bodykits for the ion u cant really go wrong.....unless ur retarded....
*If you have bigass hands this wont be a problem for you, but i dont like the grip of the ION, its a little bulky.... I suggest getting a DYE sticky grip... cant ever go wrong.
*Trigger is a must. You definetely dont want to be using that clunky double trigger that comes stock. Different triggers are for different people, and its pretty much what you want. I dont recommend anything because it depends on what you like and how u pull ur trigger. If anyone cares I have a critical RPM trigger. Its very nice, and can really boost ur gun on semi, $50 on

*ASA's are cheap enough to buy, but dont effect performance on your gun. If you arent happy with the stock ION ASA, buy a new one. One with an on/off and a purge would be the best bet.
*Some people out there complain about the ION's on/off switch... its too hard to push in or it hurts to keep ur finger there for too long or some stupid ****. If you got money to spend and ur already set on bud, get a new switch.... or a bottle of jack.
*The triggerframe for the ION, in my opinion, isnt that bad. However different trigger frames can be more comfortable, look better, and drop some weight off ur marker. Again if you got some money to spend, go for it.
*Board and Hopper chip combos are what you want if u want to keep up with high end markers. As far as ION boards i would go with an ION virtue board, or a Tadao Raider board. They're pretty much the same, except I think that Tadao's customer service isnt as good as Virtue's.... as for the hopper chip it depends on what kind you have. Again, if anyone cares, i have a vlocity with a gangstar chip in it. Works great.

Thats pretty much it. The ION is a sick little gun that has revolutionized the paintballing community a couple times over. If you put enough money into it, it can outperform a $1000 gun. Treat your ION right, and it will treat you right on the field. If anyone disagrees with me, tell me what upgrades you think are best and why.
