purple ring on crossfire tank

i recently took the tank cover off my tank and it had a purple ring about 3/4 of the way around the base where the regulator meets the bottle. at first i thought this was some sort of marker or something, but after scratching a little off, the skin of the bottle underneath the purple was slightly removed, leaving a rough spot. i have since purged the tank of all its air. does anyone know what this means?

My logical guess would be the dye (what gives materials color) from the tank cover was transfered to the tank. This is only an appearance concern and will not affect the performance of the tank.

Either that or its possible that you got shot on your tank and its just the dye from the Paintball

There is only one answer. Does not matter whose cover. YOu all play in the rain or take hits on your cover. You leave them on your tanks till they about rot off. The combination of the paint and die from the top seam of the cover mix and give you the off colors. Players that usually play with and against orange paint get the rusty brown ring and so on purple and green. The rings are different colors.
This does not happen in one day or one hit. Fact is I would leave my cover on that long too. Then you take it off and holy crap I can't believe it.
Noting to worry about. Just a stain from neglect. Now you have joined the tens of thousands with rings.

Does this sound right

Yes it happens with most covers ... just seems that the NXe ones do it more often
