2003 Shocker FAQ

Alright guys, I hate to put up more rules, but somethings that seem to be common sense to me aren't for some of you. So here we go

Rule 1:
Please DO NOT post B/S/T threads, they will be deleted immediately without warning.

Explanation:
There is a section called the "Buy, Sell, Trade " in that section there is a forum called the "Electronic Markers" use that to post your B/S/T(Buy/Sell/Trade) posts. This forum is for informational and discussion purposes. If the people here wanted to buy a marker, they would go to the Buy, Sell, Trade section.

Rule 2:
Please DO NOT make any text posts in the picture thread. They will be removed when found.

Explanation
I hate sifting through pages and pages of text to find cool pictures of other guns. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. Also it is a picture thread, it is for pictures only. If the person that posts the picture wants to tell us a little(very brief) description, or what he has on it thats fine(make sure it is on the same post). Anything that does not include a picture will be removed. If you keep posting text messages I will warn you, too many warnings result in being banned. I hate cleaning up the picture thread, so for everyone's sake keep it picures only please.

Rule 3:
Please use the search feature

Explanation
I hate seeing redundant posts about the same thing. I will not delete your post, but if I see you do it too often I will and then I will warn you. I understand sometimes the search feature doesn't come up with what we are looknig for. But please use the search feature first.

Rule 4:
Please DO NOT flame another user for not using the search feature.

Explanation
Sounds wierd since I just asked everyone to use the feature. But seriously sometimes even I can't find what I'm looking for using the search feature. So I post the question. But maybe I just wasn't typing in the right words. So please don't flame them, just help them. I have seen too many posts that I had to delete because someone flamed them for not using the search feature. Keep your cool guys. We are one big paintball family.

Well thats it for now. As I see more common sense things being not common sense I will put up more rules. I hope I won't have to. Thanks again. And happy surfing.

This is the SHOCKER forum, not the Complain about Smart Parts forum. Do not post junk here about Smart Parts sueing this, that and the other company. While I do not agree with what is happening, this is NOT the place for the complaining.

Post junk here and you are asking for a quick trip to BANsville.

In this thread I'll copy any info which is very useful regarding the setup / teching of shockers / anything people PM me to sticky.

How to calculate ROF

Credit: e1ement5

Well Rate of Fire is how many time the marker can cycle per second. A single cycle is comprised if how long (period) the bolt is open and how long the bolt is closed. These two periods are respectively the Recharge (what smart parts calls the Rate of Fire) and the Dwell.

Now these two periods range between 3 ms to 14 ms for dwell and 30 to 70 ms for recharge, as explained in the manual.
The number of shots per second or Rate of Fire is equal to 1 over the cycle period.

Thus the True ROF is = 1/(dwell + RoF).
The ROF * 1000 is for the conversion between mili-seconds and seconds.

Example: a Dwell of 25 beeps = 9.25 ms, and a Recharge rate of 17 = 47 ms.
Do the math and that gives you 17.77 shots or balls per secondů perfect for my egg-II.

Adjusting Magnet & Raising ROF

Credit: BOB469

Ajusting the magnet
1.Remove grips
2.Use a small screwdriver or allen wrench to push pins out from the frame
3.Detach wiring harness from board and remove the board
4.Use a allen wrench to ajust the trigger. Back magnet all the way out for lighter pull

Raising ROF
1. Remove Grips
2. Turn Gun on and Hold Trigger down
3. Press bottom dwell button down to Zero Beeps

Shadrach's Flipped Microswitch Mod

This mod will lighten your trigger CONSIDERABLY. Its like night and day, you dont even feel the click anymore if you've done it right.

Simple as pie. Get a de-soldering iron. There are 3 contact points where the microswitch connects to the board.

All you do is heat up the contact points where the microswitch is, 1 at a time. Suck up the solder from each point, and do this about 2 times until all the solder around all 3 contact points is gone (you should see through the holes now, with the contact sticking out through the hole)

Now, just slip a razor blade under the microswitch and heat up the contacts repeatedly as fast as you can gently prying at the razor blade, which will lift the microswitch off the board. It should come off with very little force.

Now simply flip the microswitch over, re-solder the microswitch to the board, and then run a wire from the top contact point to the bottom contact point.

Voila you now have a trigger that can absolutely RIP. Ridiculously light trigger. Enjoy!

BEFORE MODIFICATION:

AFTER MODIFICATION:

***keep in mind, the wire is the TOP and BOTTOM contacts on the microswitch. make sure nothing is touching the middle contact.

How to change Dwell on Shocker

To adjust your Shocker's dwell, recharge rate, and rebound settings, you must first remove the left side of the grip panels so that you can have access to the lower, vertical circuit board. You will see two grey buttons located on the side of the board; these are the dwell buttons and are used to adjust all three settings. The top button will increase the setting wheras the bottom one will decrease it, denoted by the text UP and DN printed on the front of the circuitry.

Dwell:
To adjust the dwell setting, simple push either the dwell DN or UP button to decrease or increase the setting respectively. Don't hold the trigger down while doing this or else the dwell won't be adjusted. Dwell is adjustable between 3 and 14 milliseconds, in 0.25 millisecond increments. This means your dwell increases one millisecond for every four chirps. You then add your number to the base amount of three to get your dwell in milliseconds. You will find that increases in dwell will generally increase velocity, just as increasing operating pressure will as well. Because of this, if you decrease the operating pressure, you can compensate by decreasing dwell time, and vice-versa. However, like some other markers, your dwell amount should be set before you adjust your operating pressure. In other words, unless you're experiancing a problem, you are advised to leave your dwell settings alone. Also know that [in most cases] too low of an operating pressure or dwell will cause inefficiencies, and too high of an operating pressure or dwell will cause inconsistencies. These statements are derived from the natural tendancies from the gas and varied limitations imposed by the electronics; in some cases they can be circumvented however not with the stock firing assembly (LPR, bolt design, solenoid, etc).
Although the stock dwell setting is 20 chirps, I personally recommend increasing it to somewhere between 25-30 with the stock aluminum bolt. For those with the 2003 delrin bolt, a setting between 20-25 is optimal. If you're using a sealed fire chamber bolt kit (NDZ Stinger v2 and v3, Evolve v1 and v2, SP Turbocharger, Freeflo2 v2 and v3), then a high dwell of 30 chirps at the bare minimum is required. Most Shockers will experiance best results with their lowest setting within this range (that is, if you don't experiance any barrel breaks or FSDO). However, if you do experiance any of these symptoms, you can try to increase the dwell one or two chirps until it goes away, or until you reach 35. If you go that high, chances are increasing it further won't make a difference, and you'll either have to live with the problem or purchase an aftermarket bolt kit. Never set your dwell below 12 chirps as the solenoid is not designed to cycle at this rate.

I just thought this might help some people because I see a lot of threads about how to change dwell. Hope this helps.

My thanks to YDNA
