Todays state of Rams ;-) and other cocker upgrades

Okay - certian cocker parts out in the land of paintball are stupidly inflated from what they where back when many pepole made parts-

Most cockers now days come with a decent LPR - and there is the ever existing micro rock if we realy need something better than the stockers- they are readaly available and standard price.

However rams out of all things are something that offers a very large proformance change - and it seems that stores are makeing us pay for it.

Where have you all found the best place to buy cocker upgrades?

Is there a real differance between a .44mag/nexus and a MP4 ram to justify 20+ $ differance.

/rip autococker hq /lol *i know the company exists still but its not focus on cockers no more :-(

the Nexus rams are worth the extra money. They are one of the smoothest, easily moving rams made. Very good quality, like most of belsales and planet eclipses stuff

The MP4 is just a STO ram with integrated TRVs/QEVs.
Still a sluggish ram, in comparison.

Aye, I have owned nexus rams - and used STO rams but never a mp4 one

the only other ram I have used that could compaire to a nexus/.44mag is a CCM ram - cept the one I had, had some odd threading on the back port and I could not put a qev on it :-( but it was a large bore like nexus

Its sad that cocker parts are more and more difficult to come by

Moody Paintball sells a very nice ram too. For $50 with QEV's, the price is good as well.

i'm still fairly new to the cocker (jan '07), and i've only had the luxury of using 3 different rams: a freeflow, a stock brass off an '03 vf, and an eclipse/belsales .44... in that order.

using the freeflow first with moody qev's, i had nothing to compare it to.
the brass ram i used on my '03 when it was mech, well it was decent but noticably sluggish compared to the FF
the eclipse with PE qev's was slightly smoother than the FF but i didn't notice a difference in performance over the FF. it is in much sexier tho

at the moment, my eclipse is slower than my FF, because it started leaking and i don't have the exact size o-ring, so i had to oversize a tad to stop the leak. even though it's sluggish when moving it by hand, it's not noticable with air.

if you can find a freeflow in good condition, i'm sure you won't be disappointed.

i buy a lot of my cocker parts here on pbn in the b/s/t. ebay some of the time (CCM has an ebay store, just got a lexan series 5 backblock), compulsivepaintball.com (wgp players parts kit), local shops carry lots of cocker threaded barrels, o rings from true value, and craigslist locally.

i've noticed on ebay that disruptive is selling their destructor rams. apparently made by belsales so i'm sure its good, but seems a bit pricey.

yea, was thinking of getting a disruptor .44mag ram - but compulsive has a .44 for only a few $ more

PBN is a source for alot of great deals

I am tempted to do the MP4 ram for looks price and conveniance alone...horrable reasons to get one... i admit

must get slick edge III bolt! - but then I think of its price for something that will be replaced when I midblock- and should just give $$ to midblock suplies

As far as rams go there is a major diffrence.
Belsales makes the 44 Mag ram and made the same ram for Planet Eclipse as the Nexus Series. Both is the best ram out there you can buy (almost at any price now).
As far as the rest goes, CCM does also make a great ram to, then maybe Moody Paintball next.
The rest as all variations of the original WGP STO ram. Shocktech, KAPP, etc. were all the same build and performance.
The newest WGP creation, the MP4 is a good idea, but sorry performance. The inside of all the MP4 rams a rough as hell, no bueno.
And no matter what ram you get, make sure you get either Planet or Belsales QEV. All rams will work better with them, no questions. I've seen mech cockers run faster just by adding them.

And thats my 2 cents worth.

what are your opinions about the palmers rams?
for me, I picked one up with QEV's and so far it seems to be pretty quick although, i really have nothing to compare it to

I belive the moody and palmer and kinda like cousins in the realm of rams- they where/are SCM rams that have been tuned and polished for paintball use ..or was it SMC...whatever ;-)

I will proboly pick up a .44 mag or a disruptive one and pop some QEV's on it...just sucks spending 70$ for a ram for your 140$ gun ;-)

I have tested or used most rams that i have ever heard of. Although I love palmer's other stuff, i can't say i like their rams, several have been extremely sluggish, with few that perform very well. The wgp stuff besides the stock brass ram are between fairly good to very good, and the mp4 is in the very good range. The belsales rams are my all time favorite. No other ram I have used operated with excellence at such a low LPR pressure then the belsales38 special and the 44 magnum. Those are my all time favorite. The eclipse rams are basically clones, and perform equally as good. Most after markets are good with a few exceptions. But overall, the Belsales has been worth every penny.

ANS mini ram is very nice. I just took my belsales 44 mag off. Belsales is one of the best and smoothest rams you can put on a mech cocker. For an mq'd eblade the short ram is the best. To get the other rams up to speed you gave to jack your lpr up a bit. The ones that have larger diameters will no longer pinch at this point. The smaller short ram has the speed you want but is less likely to smash paint.

ANS mini ram - if it was good enough for PBX and the PBX 'Rocker'(?) with the mQ - it should be good enough for your puposes - especially if you are going to be working with a mQ?

I'd say the MPP Ram since it's only $50 with QEV's. They come with high flow barbs too. If you could make a hopper fast enough, I'm sure it could keep up.
