Just look at your colors. Just look at them and ask youself if they're flattering to your subject. If you don't want to look at your own pictures, what makes you think we will?

Apparently you don't. Like I said, look at your colors. Do they pop? Are they flattering to your subject? If you trying to make her look pale and dull the first 2 succeed splendily.

Why don't you tell me...lets say, 5 things YOU see that are wrong with your photos (5 total, not even 5 from each) other than color (which I've already said), if you can do that I'll pitch in more help.

That's all you got?

1) In #1 her head is small, and her expression hiden by here hair. Get closer fill the frame with your subject, I don't give a damn about the tree.

2) Do you know DOF? Use it. Get that background to blur and pull my eye to her/ her face.

3) Get her personality to shine through. Unless she's about to kill herself, you want a pose that shows us what she's like without a camera in her face. Connect us to her.

4) Pick your backgrounds more carefully. The background should also emphasize her personality. Happy nice girl? Beach, sun, fountain (hint hint, best of the bunch). Sad girl? Steel, brick wall, dumps. Here it's like you took her all over town so you could have a bunch of backgrounds to choose from in photoshop.

5) THE COLORS. They're bland as hell.

6) You're painting with light (at least trying). So don't put her in the shade of a tree and blame the picture on not having a flash...that's not gonna fly.

Well, I was trying to teach you that you can do this **** yourself. But apparently you didn't want to put any time into your own critique. So thats the last time I waste MY energy doing it for you.

thanks for the help. im still pretty new and i struggle with my own critique. im still learning. and what you said helped because no i can take things like that into consideration next time i critique my own stuff. and the thing about the flash, there were some where i would have liked to have a fill flash, but i dont hink it would have helped an of these much. or atleast not with me using it, maybe with someone better. but anyway, thanks for your help

Don't thank me, blame yourself. I've taken 1 set of portrait shots. For my borthers birthday, Nosey yelled at me for using direct flash, and I havn't had an oppertunity to try since. So it's not like I have some crazy knowledge from years of expierence. I simply look at every picture that passes by my eye and I critique and see why it's good/bad.

Just a couple tips for you...

For portraits, generally "less is more" is a good rule of thumb to keep in mind when it comes to your back ground. The subject of your portraits should be the person and the back ground shouldnt distract from that. Try to find backgrounds that provide a simple back drop and use a shallow depth of field to blur them out. With a different back ground, # 3 would hav been decent.

Be sure that your focal point is your subjects eyes. If they aren't tack sharp, it just ruins your portraits.

Photography is painting with light. I know it's cliche, but it's the trueth. In the first 2 pics, you are painting with some really crappy paint... like Glidden or something. HA HA. If the lightings not right, do something to change it. Reflectors, fill flash, move to another location, whatever...

And no matter what anyone tells you, keep at it.
