You are frightening me, really you are.
a) If you separate the barrel pieces on your own, you will void the barrel's warrenty.
b) If you are intent on separating the pieces, no burning is needed. The two pieces are held together with grooves filled with epoxy.
c) The glued barrel is the older version. While it doesn't have an advantage over the screw together per se, since you can't take it apart and put it back together all the time, it doesn't have parts (such a threads) wearing out over time.
