Virtue Board in Alien Interceptor

Guys (& Gals) I just finished putting the Virtue board into my sons Interceptor. Since he has the 85 degree frame there's no need to cut the side of the battery. All there is to do is remove about 5mm of material between the battery and board so that the dip switches will fit.

After the material was removed I put a piece of foam at the corner of the battery nearest the board (to keep it from moving).

There is about 1/16 inch between the dip switch and the side of battery.

There's only one thing so far that I see as any type of problem. The optic that shows what the LED color is not directly alligned with the LED. So, the colors are hard to see. I am going to try to see if I can do something to see it easier. I'll let you know if I find anything.

I did take some pics. I have to put them on my computer first, but I probably won't get to it tonight.

The 05 guys have been using foam for years to secure the battery. Guess it still wasn't exactly a direct drop in, but I'm glad it worked out for you. How does it shoot with the new board?

It's actually like the DM's. When you get your shot count up in SEMI the marker seems to take off. We have it set uncapped right now, but we'll change it. I have the dwell set at 9ms which I believe is a little lower than what we had before. What do you suggest. I noticed it wasn't shooting as fast but I didn't have my handheld with me to check it.

What do you suggest on the dwell? There wasn't any bounce either.

I checked the eyes too, to make sure they weren't the reason it wasn't firing before. Personally, I don't think the battery would go anywhere. I just wanted to be safe. There isn't enough material removed to complain about. It's very minimal.

Just want to reiterate that this was for the 85 degree frame.

.
By "not shooting as fast" do you mean FPS? I would try running the dwell at 8 or 9 first and up the HPR to get the velocity up. Use the owners manual method (it's a good one) to balance the regs if things don't seem right. Then bump the dwell if you need too.

Okay, I am running it at 9ms right now.

I am going to try to make a procedure for the mod and board install, even though it's pretty simple.

FYI, I have a procedure written. I am going to paste pics in it tonight and will post it for every one. Once it's complete, if somebody wants an electronic copy please feel free to PM me for my e-mail so I can send it to you.

It makes it even easier to fire in SEMI mode.

It reminds me of my DM when it gets going...

I'll try to load the pics as soon as I can.

Virtue Alien Board Installation
The following procedure is a “step by step” process for installing the “Virtue Alien Board” into an ‘Alien Interceptor.’
1. Remove both hand grips from both sides of the grip frame.
2. Disconnect the battery
3. Overlay new board on top of the side of the old WAS board just as if it were installed into the frame.
4. Using a pencil or scribe make a mark at the side of the DIP Switch housing on the area that is blocking the board from sliding into place.
5. Remove all board connections from the WAS (or other) board, paying attention to how they were on the old board. Tape out of the way so the wires are not damaged.
6. Remove WAS board.
7. Remove on/off button or just tape in place so it doesn’t get lost.
8. Mask the marker & grip frame with masking tape to prevent any scratches during modification. I used 2 inch masking tape.
9. You’ll need to remove approximately 1/8 or slightly more with either a saw or dremel.. A simple cut straight across.
10. replace/re-insert on/off button
11. Slide new board into place inside of grip frame.
12. Replace connections on board. (steps 10 & 11 can be swapped)
13. Place a small piece of foam where the battery bottom corner is nearest the board in the grip frame to prevent any movement.
14. Make battery connection and install battery.
ADJUST SETTINGS THE WAY YOU LIKE EM AND
GO SHOOT SOME SUCKERS!!!!

Thumbs up Update

Okay, my son and I took the Virtue'd Alien and went into our back yard with my handheld chrono. The velocity was lower as I expected. I figured I would raise the dwell to see if it would increase the velocity and it did. I put the dwell back at 9ms and it was shooting only around 245 bps (ish) and would not go beyond that. I tried to reset the LPR to the manual and nadda. (nothing)

By setting it up to 10ms I was able to get the velocity I wanted and a very nice stream of paint. Very consistent. I mean they were like bullets one on top of the other. We were shooting at about 285 - 290.

It has the same characteristic of a DM or Shocker type board in that after so many trigger pulls it gets easier to keep going in SEMI.

Oh, by the way I made the LED problem a little better by rotating the board mounts so that it was a little further away from the optic.

At least we can see some of the light now.

Thanks

Awesome thanks for the update dhosinski. I really want to get this for my next up, but ready to hear some cons such as the predator. I was so close to buying that board before the semi mode crapness. League down here only plays semi mostly.

The light is a 1/8 inch plastic bar.
You could go to Tap Plastic or similiar get a bar for a couple dollars and heat it and bend it a bit. Leave the bent in in the gun pointing toward the light and push it through the trigger frame get pliers and break the bar off close to the grip without scratching the gun. Do it a few times till you get one you like and it will look like it came that way.
