Press Release - Undertakers Present "The Paintballer's Oath" to increase safety.

Paintball is growing faster than ever, but with its growth comes even more responsibility. The Undertakers Tactical Paintball Team is proud to announce the release of "The Paintballer's Oath." The oath was created as a means to let new players know that great responsibility goes along with owning their own paintball markers for purposes of their own safety and for the continued respect and growth of the sport. Too many times young players are given a marker and not informed of basic gun safety and of situations that might cause injury to themselves or harm the sport of paintball. Rising acts of vandalism and intentional injury with paintball markers hurt the identity of the sport to the detriment of those who work hardest to protect it. By releasing this Oath The Undertakers hope that it will reach the new influx of players to the game and help them realize their responsibility to the sport and especially to the paintball community. The Undertakers encourage all paintball retailers, teams, stores, magazines and websites to freely copy, post and distribute "The Paintballer's Oath" so that the Sport might continue to grow and get the respect it deserves. In addition the Undertakers hope to get feedback from the paintball community on suggestions on what they can add to the Oath to continue to improve it and better serve the Sport as a whole.

To read the oath please visit www.undertakerstpt.com/pboath.htm

The Undertakers and the Sport of Paintball thank you for your support.

Just some constructive criticisim (It's not a slam so please don't anyone get their panties in a bunch.......)

I believe the list would be taken a bit more seriously if it weren't written in "Old-English". Its a good concept, especially for young children, but it comes across as reading somthing out of Monty Python.

I like this but shouldn't this thread be under the Paintball Safety forum.
http://www.pbnation.com/forumdisplay.php?f=325

But I think a link to it in your sig would be a good idea.

Just some feedback/Questions as well...

Why would you wear your goggles when working on your gun? Maybe you should put "Thou shall not have their tank attached to thy gun when working on thy gun" or something like that...

Actually some paintball insurance policies require that players be in a netted area wearing goggles to work on their guns while on the property.

also the font makes it a slow read, people are more apt to just look at it and say screw it if they cant read it fast or easy

other wise i really think you have somthing here, if new players will abide by these paintball will be better off

you could save yourself some time by just making 1 single point.

"Thou shalt have common sense."

Doesn't even need to be an oath.

Because scenario paintball has turned into a Kill or be Killed arena.

Safety and fun are only marginally connected at best. You can go to an event that totally sucks, and still have it be a safe environment.

you'd need a seperate oath to promote "fun".

Thanks for the helpful suggestions guys. I will take them into consideration. Another thought was adding "blindfiring to the oath" do you guys think that is worth having a separate clause.

Finally I will change the font those are valid points, and change it from Thou to I since technically it is an oath and not a list of commandments. I will also add a clause for fun and sportsmanship over victory.

Thanks again for helping contribute. It is greatly appreciated. And yes while this post does belong on a safety section of the board, it does involve a scenario team trying ot do something positive for the sport so that is why I posted here. Thanks for the heads up though.

I think it is a good thing to promote. It does sound a little corny, but it is right on the money. If these are the things we want players to abide by, then I say push it.

Some would say that telling other people how to play the game is bad sportsmanship. Don't change it from an oath about legit safety practices to an oath about how you think other people should play the game.

i like the old english but then again our team site used it or something close to it.

I think its sad that this needs to be spelled out for everyone but its something that appears to be needed at alot of fields. I think if fields had a 4 by 8 peice of plywood painted white with the rules on it so you can read them at all times, would be a great step.

To any flamers I just want to say one thing, while it seems that such a "Oath" is pointless the fact remains that its not pointless if it makes a young player think twice before doing something stupid that will hurt the reputation of the sport, having people call the police because they saw someone carrying what they thought was a real gun, saving an eye or two for those idiots that look down thier barrell or work on their guns without taking eye protection into account, pointing it innocently at a friend not knowing thier still might be some air left in the cylinder after the tank was removed, and still one ball in the chamber. Sadly there are people out there who dont have common sense, be happy you are not one of them.

There is not one single piece of literature being distributed to young paintballers, not by the manufacturers, not by stores, no signs in fields etc, to make young players realize that thier actions affect our sport on a national level. This is just a step in trying to get some literature out there and try to inform parents who buy thier kids guns that it has to be treated with respect and it is not just another toy. As the sport gets more popular, more idiots will get thier hands on the markers, and everytime some kid loses an eye or someone gets hurt, or the police are called etc, the sport is affected. Why shoudlnt paintball have a universal document that lays out the accepted rules in the community. It cant hurt. In my city milsim markers are illegal, why should it be that way? Who makes such a law, if you think it doesnt hurt paintball you are dead wrong. In Chicago they tried to pass a law that banned all exotics, even for scenario games, thankfully the paintball community got involved. The Undertakers will do whatever in thier power to help promote the sport in a postive light.

Also I have made some changes to make it more serious and thank all those who contributed and added to making the Oath better.

Thank you for reading.
