If it came from World of Warcraft (WOW) or not the only reason I can think would be when People in WOW had to have Master Loot on in instinces and the leader would go "Roll for X" 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Done. Then they would say (persons name) For the win. Then "FTW" was a common phrase to say when something worked. Such as "Thats For the win" or "Dude, thats FTW"

It came from Warcraft the game, originally it wasFor The Horde but thanks to internetz it changed to for the win.

There never was a "Horde" in Warcraft.
It was Humans vs. Orcs. Up until Warcraft 3 which brought in Undead, and Night Elves.
The only thing "close" to the Horde was Orcs... but they were never called that...
I was playing the beta of Warcraft 1... I knoez my Blizzard games...

I've never heard **** the world said on the computer, but quite a few times off the comp, but I think for the win had to do with the computer revolution when half the world basically had on, late 90's early 00's
