How long until...

we have a standard "interface" for boards across most, if not all, electronic paintball guns? How many of you have had to use a teammate's or friend's gun and were clueless as to how to program it, turn the eyes off, force a shot, etc.

I know it's probably a pipe dream, but I'd love to one day be able to pick up any paintball gun and know exactly how to control it without having used it before.

never. cuz then everybody would go copyright infringment cuz thats just too easy and simple to do. plus that means that everybody would use one code. so after one company owns all board companies

I would love to see one standard board for top tourny paintball so that you knew everyone had the same advantage. However that would require some governing like Nascar has that is willing to test tech and then make everyone use it.......that is not going to happen any time soon

Ok, to clarify, I'm not talking about having just one type of board. I'm only talking about the interface you use. The "standard" could span multiple interface types also: single color LED, multi-color LED, LCD. It would mean that guns which conform to the "standard" would always have the same way to access settings, turn off the eyes, force a shot, etc. You could then have a Tadao board that complies with the "standard", as well as Virtue, Predator, etc. boards. They'd each be their own board, with their own custom code. However, they'd all be able to be programmed the same way.

The idea stems from frustration I had at practice over the weekend where I was using a teammate's gun (an Invert Mini) and discovered that you have to turn the gun off and back on in order to turn off the eyes. I'm used to just holding the trigger down on my Cyborg to force a shot, and hold it longer to turn the eyes off. Some guns do that, some don't. You can't turn off your gun during a tournament, though.

I got to thinking about modes and other settings, which are mostly the same across all markers now. Why does there need to be a different way to configure every single marker? The only reason it happens is because there is no defined standard and the people who are writing the software for the boards come up with their own ideas about how the controls should work.

Got ya. Yeah I doubt that will ever happen just for the simple fact that every board company is trying to make their board 1 better then the competition. This includes what they feel is the best interface.

In addition to that, many people like different things. For instance, I can't stand having an eye on/off button. I would *MUCH* rather hold the trigger for 2 seconds. Some people like momentary on/offs like most every gun on the market, I prefer slide switch. I don't think you'll ever see the market go to a standard.

Hold the trigger to turn off the eyes? Dangerous anyone? It seems kinda dangerous to make it necessary for you to fire a shot in order to change your gun's settings. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean and there's another way to hold the trigger and disable eyes without actually having the risk of a ball coming out of the barrel.

Some guns come with three, two, one or no push buttons. So to change settings in the case of no push buttons, the trigger is the only form of user input.

The idea and theories have been brought up before, and it would be much more beneficial if they would standardize the molex used to connect each item to the frame....

The major benefit to this would be boards, while boards can be extremely cheap, a standard board could be issued at an event to eliminate all cheating. I do not know if any of you have been to an R/C race, however every race you are given your motor..

This will probably happen once we get around to standardizing barrel threads.
