Who says that the snakes would be unfit? I live near Lake Erie, which has a massive zebra mussel problem. They aren't native, and when they were introduced they had a selective edge because there were no predators.

Bingo. The pastor just doesn't understand natural selection which, unlike evolution has been 100% proven. Not that evolution doesn't gain more evidence every single day though.

Organisms that are unfit to survive in their surroundings... do not survive. That is a truth, not "just a theory" as some people like to word it .
