actually the laws can get pretty complicated and there are several factors to consider such as where the photograph was taken, public or private property, if the person in the photo is considered a person of public interest or a public official. If anything in the photo is trade marked like a sports team's logo or jersey. And then there's the final use of the photo to consider. Will it be used for some media purpose like news papers or magazines or will it be used for promotional or merchandising. It's all very conveluted and depending on which states laws and what judge hears the case, you could probably get a dozen different rulings on the same issue.

GooG, I would also get a decent flash as well - most people don't think of using a flash durning the day, but if you'd be surprised how much a little fill flash improves sunlit photography (especially during high noon when most people play)

i stand correct, regarding profit gain in NYC. but publishing material falls under commercial promotion. i guess i should've been more clear on that.

for me, if i plan on taking a picture of someone with the idea and intent to sell the image, i ALWAYS have a consent/release form. it saves me the hassle of dealing with lawyer fees and court time and possible lawsuits! better to be safe than sorry.

no harm in that, but "hooking them up" with free pictures doesn't save you in court if they do decide to sue you (of course i'm talking on a larger scale)! but yeah, most of the pb'ers in this area would be more than happy with a couple pictures of them playing ball in exchange for permission to take photos during practice/game time.

well get a UV filter (protect Lens)
2) learn the game, know where to move
3) you have a zoom on the camera (70-200mm) use it, soo you can get some distance soo that you aren't in a middle of a gun fight

Also thanks for the info on public shooting!
Damn, I was hoping for the cool points.

You're ballsy, I'll give you that. One thing you need to know about shooting this "sport" is that people will love you one second, hate you the next, then suck you off 5 minutes later. Photographers don't have friends in the sport, just people who want photos.

Don't ask, but don't sell the rights without a waiver. That's a good way to **** yourself.
