Reduced Mass Stock Bolt Mod. "Low-Blow" Style

I finally got the time to post my pics and do somewhat of a tutorial. I just shaved off a bit from the bolt shaft and cut out a Low-Blow styled slit from the bottom lip.

I am not responsible if you mess up your bolt doing this. Just know that this is my experiment with the stock bolt.

I posted pictures with the original ACB Low-Blow Bolt for comparative purposes.

Time Needed: 30-45 minutes with proper equipment

Tools:
-Dremel
-Dremel Abrasive Stone
-Dremel Cut Off Wheel
-Exacto Knife Set (Optional)

Low-Blow Slit
First here I decided to simply use a cut off wheel and dremel a slit aligned straight from the bolt opening. I then decided to use an Exacto knife to carefully slit layers away. I'm just better using a blade than using a Dremel. Make sure it's smooth and proportionate.

Shaving the Shaft
In this part I used the cut off wheel to shave the larger pieces of the shaft. I switched of to the abrasive stone using mid-speed and slowly smoothed it out. You can sand this part down as far as you like but I would recommend you stick to simply taking only a small amount off to keep bolt integrity.

Should look like this when done. What do you think?

Exactly, it's suppose to be similiar to the Low-Blow bolt by ACP except without having to shell out $30 bucks.

The Low-Blow Slit could be measured to be a precision cut. But it's basically trying to get the performance value out of the Low-Blow style. Which can be found here: http://www.alamocitypb.com/MANUFACTPAGES/lowblow.html

The shaving was to increase cycle speed. The stock NME bolt is made with very heavy plastic and can be made lighter thus lowering dwell and increasing cycling speed.

the spyder guys are doing this now, too. They're actually doing it to $30 bolts (superflys), which is kind of funny.

If you can do this with say an aftermarket Intimidator bolt, there might be an amazing increase in performance.

I had tried this with my stock bolt before against my alamo city pb and it did not work out that great, I lost about 20 fps and it did not put nearly as much backspin on the ball compared to the low blow. I noticed about 20-30 fps higher with the low blow and when both were shooting the same speed the low blow still went further. You need to figure out a way to do it without getting rid of the front oring.

you're loosing velocity due to the crappy o-rings on the stock bolt. on the ACPB bolt, there are x-rings which provide a much better seal and smoother operation with some oil. on my ACPB bolt, my frend was able to dremel out the detent slots so that they don't even touch the detents anymore several cases later and i haven't changed detents since

yea, ive changed the orings on the original bolt, I have a pack of 100 of those x seal orings. yea, I dremeled the bolt but not that far, I still like the low blow 100x times better then my modded stock and the low blow definetely works better.

on the stock bolt, the walls are too thin to dremel out slots that would completely clear but you are able to do it on the ACPB bolt.

Yea the walls on the ACP bolts is pretty thick. I love my ACP bolt, I just need a delrin pin to complete the bolt setup.

I should have time to compare both bolts and record some numbers this weekend once I get my other gear for the gun in the mail.
