RULES FOR FLYING WITH TANKS*mods plz sticky*

Here are the following rules for flying with a paintball tank or compressed air cylinder.
Just degassing your tank will get your tank taken away without any notice with only a note. The airline will just take the tank out of your back and you will arrive at the airport WITHOUT a tank.
Your regulator must be taken completely off when entering the the airport and checking your bags. If the bag is searched, (and it will be) personnel must be able to see inside of the tank to look for explosives, contraband etc. I suggest placing the regulator and cylinder on opposite sides of the bag.

Ways to get around this:
Mail your tank to your hotel at least a week in advance to when you'll be needing it. Address it to yourself with the address of the hotel, but let the hotel know your sending a package for them to receive.

if you mean unscrew it from your gun and put it in your bag... one of these times you are going to end up without a tank. TSA says you HAVE to take the reg off no matter what airline it is.

he doesnt mean unscrew it from your gun. he meant unscrew the reg.
It usually takes vice grips to do it and it supposedly voids any safety warranty but this is the most common way to get your tank to your destination. Shipping a tank through USPS or UPS is also illegal and can get your tank taken away, they just dont usually check the packages. Same with bringing it on the airplane without the reg being taken off, it could make it through security or it could get taken. Personally, I got sick of shipping my tank, so I broke the seal on it and now i unscrew the reg each time. TSA will allow it so long as they can see inside the bottle to know that it isnt filled with anything. But like the other post says de-gassing isnt enough to get it through security, you must have the reg off so that the bottle is open.

Sometimes you will get around it without taking off the reg. But to be safe take it off. You do not want to take it off at the airport cause it is a pain. but other than that have fun.

I'm flying Continental to LA... and I asked them about their rules for the air tanks. Continental told me I could put the tank in my checked luggage with the reg still attached as long as the tank was empty. They also told me the only time the reg must be removed is if you carry it on with you.

It will be TSA who inspects your checked luggage. Not the airline. If I were you, I'd take your reg off.

Just got off the phone with TSA... they said the regulator MUST be removed, and that their security requirements override the requirements of the airlines.

their is a huge difference between receiving tanks from distributors that where shipped UPS or USPS and checking a tank in your bag when boarding a flight

Flying with your tank and shipping it (or having one shipped to you from a company or someone you bought it from) are two different things; he's talking about shipping it, not flying with it.

Read, comprehend, post.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...ted-items.shtm

about 90% of the way down under the heading of "Explosive & Flammable Materials, Disabling Chemicals & Other Dangerous Items"
it says
Compressed Gas Cylinders - including fire extinguishers
No
No
the "No's" are for (allowed in Carry on) and for (allowed in baggage)

I have flown probably close to 60 times to practices and tourneys and have alwasy just removed my reg from my bottle and it's been good. I have been out of it for 18month and I am curious to see how the TSA/airline are acting these days.

How do you get the reg back on, just screw it in? It seems like once you unscrew it that it would always be unscrewing the reg when you unscrew the tank from the asa...

Um actually everyone plays with a tank that has a loose head...

Ive had my tanks unscrewed for the past like 3 years...every time I fly, I unscrew the Reg from the Bottle and when Im about to play, I screw the Reg back onto the Bottle and put air in it...

I never put loctite on my tanks....There is an oring on the Reg for a reason...its so when you screw the bottle back on and air it up, it creates an airtight seal that cant be uncrewed until all the air has left the Reg.

Look at all the pros...they always unscrew the bottle from the reg when they are done playing...

Me and my friend have both kept the regs on before.
Most of the time I unscrew it though.

Unscrew your reg from your tank. Have the TSA people look inside the tank to see there aren't any bombs/drugs.

Problem solved. /thread
