Ever heard the phrase "God-fearing Man"? Part of our faith is a fear of what the alternative is, but it isn't why we're Christians. I'm a Christian because I see everything that God has done for me and those around me in daily life. The multiple blessings that get overlooked by people everyday, the fact that I'm not starving, and that I have clean clothing and a roof over my head. I'm not afraid that I'll go to Hell for angering God, because I know I'm going to screw up, and that He's going to get mad, there's just no way around it. But, He offers His forgiveness and gladly gives it to anyone who asks.

Most of you will call this luck or coincidence or what have you but I know it to be a blessing from God. My ATM card is in the process of being replaced so I have no cash, I have no lunch and I'm a big guy...at my workplace we cook lunch for an employee on their birthday it just so happens today was an employee's birthday but surprise Salmon was on the menu and I cant stand fish... about 15 minutes before 12:00 I heard my boss say how good his spiral ham turned out so I was able too eat lunch after all, The moral of this story is yes God does provide.
To get this back on topic ID ftw....lol

So why are so many others starving from birth, what makes you so special that you get blessed by god and not them?

And second question

Would you still have the same belief if there wasn't a supposed hell that you'd enter if you didn't believe?

I would like to see a teacher openly try to teach ID, and see how long it takes before a lawsuit is filed claiming violation of the establishment clause by said teacher. If anyone has been following what's going on in Kearny, NJ, it's quite interesting. Let's see if that teacher is penalized at all. And Pump Scout is right, keep it civil or we're done.

For the first question, I don't know, it's God's plan, not mine. And yes, I would still be a Christian if there wasn't a Hell. It's like I said earlier, being God-fearing comes with the territory, but Hell is definately not the reason we praise Him. We follow God because of the blessings he bestows upon us, not the punishments we will recieve if we choose not to follow him.

So I just finished an evolution and biology class and a evolution/creationism class last semester. In the 300 person evolution/creationist class there were almost 1:1 evolutionists:creationists at the beginning. By the end, there was only about 30 people who still believed creation was mostly right and evolution was mostly wrong. That's 10:1. That says A LOT about the evidence for evolution seeing as that class spent half the time studying evolution and the other half doing creationism. When presented all the best evidence for evolution in such a comprehensive course it officially changed the minds of over 120 creationists. Just thought I'd share seeing as ID is creationism in a cheap costume.

I think the point is that religious people tend to assume truth based on a text "with no other context or study." He's got a point.

Who presented the research for the creationists? If that many people "changed" their minds then your teacher is quite the spin doctor.

Either that or the teacher's just honest, and the class wasn't very religious.

Johnson, Bryant, Behe... big names. The teacher was no spin doctor, we read more creationist books like Darwin on Trial than evolutionist books like those written by Futuyma. It was fascinating reading the books side by side because virtually everything in Johnson's book was speculation, philosophy, and bad science against evolution that's already been explained, while Futuyma had mad lab experiments, comprehensive studies, and good science for evolution. He had some really convincing studies about natural selection's power to shape species' evolution. I think most of it still in the classes' online course so I'll see if I can access it still. Very informative stuff.
