^^you are supposed to keep an arrow nocked and drawn when you go up to your deer like that.

another good thing to notice is that usually when an animal dies its eyes are open. if its eyes were closed then it was probably a good sign.

also, sit back and watch it for a minute, if you see it breathe, its still alive.

but anywho, heres my boomstick. remington 7600 pump 30.06

and heres the forky i shot with it a couple years back. i have only gotten doe tags since, and i didnt have any luck this year. this one was in iron sight days. no scope at about 150 yards. one shot, it ran about 50 feet then dropped. weighed in at about 175lbs with head.
