Drill Press help
Hello nation, I am looking for some help on drill presses. I will be opening up my little shop here at my house. My friend is letting me borrow his drill press. I was wondering as to the general quality of it. All I know, is that it is a Grizzy floor standing drill press. If anyone can tell me the quality of Grizzly drill presses, it would be much appreciated.

Sorry no model#, if I had that, I could probably find out myself. I just need to know what quality Grizzly is.

Same as any other chineese brand, they are mostly all the same (HF, Grizzly, etc)
Just go out and buy a small table top. Unless you plan on doing something huge, a small table top is plenty for paintball uses.
Also, plan on spending money on other machines also. A shop with just a drill press wont get you too far.

To do that sort of stuff, especially halfblocking, you'll be wanting a mill. A drill press can only do so much and don't even think about putting non-axial loads on it (ie: trying to mill with it).
Grizzley is up around the top of the spectrum (just below Jet, and others) on import machine tools and HF/Cummins, etc. are bottom of the barrel junk. I have a Grizzley lathe and while it's decent, it leaves much to be desired out of the crate. I had to do a lot of modifying and tuning on it to get it to cut nicely.

Thanks, I know they aren't meant to have stuff pushed side to side, I am looking into some mills. The drill press is just for the BOB right now. Hope to later get a mill and start doing cheap halfie conversions.
