Getting an ION

Im currently running with a Tippmann pro-carbine, i like to rock it old school. I want to get into speedball, right my team and I do woods and scenarios.

Question is what are some of the initial upgrades i should get. Im looking all the stuff with the smart parts name IE black heart, firestorm bolt (i think), 360 qev. Im also looking into the mini maz flow and freak barrel. What should i start off with? Thanx in advance.

all of those ups r pretty good i dont know about the max flow havnt used one but really the black heart is unneccasary cuz 17 bps is really fast enough for any one use the money for the board on a good hopper ie halo

ps its firebolt

ya im deciding if i wanna get tons of the 20 -40 dollar ups cuz i can borrow an all american from someone, or if i wanna go straight into freak and the board. eventually i wanna get everything on it, cuz im OCD like that. My pro carbine has a regulator and tons of customized parts. but it rocks, its just slow, im gonna put a scepter grenade launcher on it and then retire it.

seriously, it's nice to actually have a person come in and know or at elast have an idea of upgrades instead of posts like,

"WHAT UPGRADES SHOULD I GET?" man, those posts annoy me.

but berger, you got it down.

As far as the board goes, I would hold off on it.
Clamping feedneck is the no brainer like someone said
QEV for faster cycling (360 is fine)
the firebolt and the TectT L6 (if you got the cash) are good bolts
Trigger? the stock trigger is, um....SUXORS, the VP scythe, sic triggers are nice.

sorry, the blades are nice since they provide a flat surface yet I prefer the scythe style. the ones that look like

but with more of an arch. look at your fingers when you walk, for me, my trigger finger and middle finger move at different speeds. my middle moves slower so the added arch in the scythe gives it a small fraction of time for it to hit the trigger than it does the trigger finger...just my opinions...

here is the TechT website...http://www.techtpaintball.com/index1.html

also any roller trigger would be nice. Alot of people don't like the CP's since they are kinda complicated to install. I installed mine fine with a trick i learned, but NDZ i believe has some nice triggers as well.

and to add, Tippy's freakin' rock!!!

NDZ Roller Blade trigger FTW! I love mine, and I have also heard good things about the VP Scythe and Critical triggers, but personally I don't like scythe style triggers...

Also, a new board isn't necessary right away, but if you get one DO NOT get the Blackheart. It is the worst one out right now and you could get a T-Board for cheaper and it's better. Personally I am getting the Lucky Stage 4 board ($120)...

Edit: The TechT L6 is lighter and has much better efficiency because it has 2 tail o-rings, which seal off the firing chamber when the bolt is forward so you don't lose air...

also whats a good barrel length im used to 16 or 18s for woods ball. but i dont see that happening in speedball so should i get 12 or 14.

All the eyes will work the same. The only reason people get new ones is because most aftermarket eyes light up and look cool.

The virtue boards are great, but some new boards just came out that are IMO a bit better and are also cheaper. The Lucky S4 is only $120 and comes with a MAC noid (www.buyluckypaintball.com), the T-Board is much cheaper than the Blackheart and has alot more options (look in stickies for the site), the APE board is ($100) and has alot of options, and the Tadao board just came out, but that one is pretty expensive and doesn't have tons of modes that the other ones don't have....

The main reason that you don't want to get the Blackheart board is that it is capped at 20 bps, where all other aftermarket boards are uncapped.

If you are looking for better performance in your eyes, the Lucky stage 4 uses different eye logic than the stock board, but IMO the eyes work great as they are...

Edit: Barrel length is mostly personal preference, but I like 14 in. barrels. You probably wouldn't want to go any shorter than 12, or any longer than 14 though because it can hinder performance. If you go longer than 14 inches, it will use more air, and you won't see any true accuracy gain...and if you go shorter than 12, accuracy will be affected.

Heres some advice from a CURRENT TIPPMANN OWNER.... Dont bother with a more advanced board for your Ion unless you feel like wasting cash. Im absolutely positive you won't be able to walk the trigger anywhere near the stock boards limit being as you own a Pro-Carbine (I have 2 and a 98c).
Heres the order of things I got for my Ion after 3 weeks of owning it:
1. QEV
2. Drop forward & no rise clamping feedneck
3. Better barrel & bolt
4. Any loader that can feed at least 15bps
