Backlite LCD

i did some research and this company sent me some samples, they can plug right onto an LED and the part slides right under my LCD display, the only problem is the order has to be huge and cost over 1000 dollars,
but anyway it is possible and here is sample of what can be.

Where theres a will theres a way.

That looks awesome dude. Any chance you'd be willing to part with one of your extra samples?

they are made by a company called lumitex here's the link
http://www.lumitex.com/lcd_backlighting.html

No they don't cost 1000 dollars, you have to purchase a minimum of 250 units and the order cost is a minimum of 1000 dollars, if enough people want to front the cash we could order them and distribute them.

that big thing is just a led attached to a battery. it unclips and has a plastic cylinder that clips right to ANY LED, i just have to get a new one on the board and i won't need that one on there. the one on the board is too weak and the one they sent me is only a single color.

the other sample they sent me is too thick to fit under the display, i have all the info i need to place an order, but the cost and quantity are prohibative, we could start a joint account with all paintballers interested and get it made to our specs and once the amount is reached place the order and distribute them.

we would have to set it up and us as members would be the dealer. lumitex is just a factory that's why the order has to be so big.

new problem, the stock board only has a 1.7 volt LED and it's hard to find one in that range bright enough to power the backlight unit, anyone know of one in a 5mm 1.7 volt 6000mcd LED let me know.

Best I'm finding is 2800mcd @ 1.7V. Going to require some signifigant amperage to get 6000mcd @ 1.7V. I'd be worried about burning out the traces on the board that power the stock LED if you're putting a much brighter one piggy-backed on it. Plus the voltage regulator that drops it down to 1.7V from 9V would have that much more heat to disipate. Could be a problem. Could probably operate a 9V LED off a transistor switch tapped into the battery harness but it would be a constant tiny voltage leak. You'd have to pull the battery out of your gun when you aren't using it else it'll be dead next weekend.

Here is something I am just gonna throw out.

I know the mongoose has a backlit lcd.

Call up NPS and maybe you can have one of those lights or even if the lcd is the same you can link that. Just something for you to look into.

Honestly I'm wondering if we are seriously overthinking this. Has anyone even tried positioning an LED in the grip in near proximity to the screen. Might get enough illumination just from haphazardly side-lighting it.
