Question spyders as rentals

are there any spyders with metal frames that wont crack. I know most feilds use tippys as rentals but i hear that tippys take along time to clean and repair. I know spyders can be cleaned in 60 seconds and fixed quickly and cheaply. so what makes tippys better to rent when they cost 2x as much as a spyder and my be durable but when it breaks you have a handfull.

i'd say a good while jayweb, depends how many matches in a day they are used though. They should still be in decent shape in atleast a year as long as you clean them and oil them every week after rough play.

Overall currently Tippmanns are the norm for rentals.

Over the years I have found truly only three types of markers work well as rentals:

1) Mags - Great gun, easy to maintain, great tech support, and if you can get away from the nubbins its damn near bulletproof. Only downfall is price.

2) Tippmann 98s - Again a great gun, damn near bulletproof, parts are fairly easy to comeby, and its a very universal design that doesnt cost much. Downfall is that it isnt as easy as one would hope to fully take apart and clean

3) F4 Illistrators - Its a spyder clone, but one thats simple as simple can be, easy to clean, easy to tech, and easy to clean for players on the field. Its downfalls are mainly the price isnt as low as one would hope, and that its still a spyder design.

---------

Ions work well as rentals ONLY if you have control over the environment that they are used in. If your giving them to kids and letting go wild on an outdoor field and outdoor speedball field you can expect to see them go down quite a bit more then if they were used in an ideal set up.

For IONs to really shine as rentals a indoor facilty with turf or other ground cover is ideal, inflatable bunkers are a huge plus as well on this. Regulated HPA tanks preset to safe limits and precrono'd guns make for the longest up time and lifespan possible. The more you can control the factors the better.

-----

Tippmann's usually last a very long time before they "blow up". I've seen tippmanns that were bought the first year they came out still up and running. So long as you clean them at least once a month and oil them about once every two weeks you can expect to see a lifespan of years with minimal parts replacements being done.

Honestly wipe them down and flip down the feedneck and run a pull through squeegie through it and the next morning before you air it up put a drop or two of oil in the asa and you should be fine. I tell people to grab one to two extra tippmanns when you buy for parts guns to be able to pull them apart to use them for parts.

* When I state "Tippmann" or "Tippmanns" I am refering to a Tippmann 98 or Tippmann 98 custom WITHOUT ACT.

--------

As for spyders and spyder clones...In all honesty I would stay away from the Spyders, its nothing against kingman, but they just don't do as well as Tippmann 98s in the rental department.

The biggest factor you need to keep inmind is that rentals are used and abused more then you can think. Thus a "higher end" type rental isnt as good of an idea.

Something that is:

1) Easy to clean/maintain
2) Dependable
3) Bulletproof (long lasting)
4) Cheap (parts and intial purchase)
5) Has an easy to use design (user friendly)
6) Easy to fix in the field or on the fly (doesnt apply as much but still matters.)
7) Customer Support (again doesnt matter, but it still is somewhat relivant.)

is really what you need to look at when it comes to choosing a rental.

I would say use tippmanns and offer ions for rentals at a higher cost.

At my field we use some ancient Pro Carbines. They've been used so much but still operate. Usualy problems with them is the ASA gets cross threaded, trigger sear, and people mess with the top sight thing (its name left my mind atm) thinking its supposed to move when its not.

We also have 98's that are newer and only problems so far are chops (not a gun problem I know).

They dont take long to clean up ok, to really get it super clean takes a while but we spend about 2 min on each gun and their clean enough to use.

Microfiber rags clean everything faster.

tippmans are great rentals, you can usually find a kid or 2 who will ref/ fix guns for you for about 1/2 case of paint a day ( thats what i do)just have them clean the guns every few weeks

these are a few matenence things you can do to keep them running forever

Daily-put a drop or 2 of iol in each asa before every day of play and after every day put 2 drops of oil on the back bolt and wipe down the feedneck area and put a few drop on the front bolt

Every 8-10 days of play ( 4-5 weeks)- take apart gun wipe all the parts down put all of the parts in a small box have a box for every gun or 2
then get a bucket of warp soapy water and let all the shells sit in it for about 2 hours

rinse off shells

put guns back together (dont forget 2 oil al guns

if you do this your guns will last forever

our tippmanns have been thrown, fallen, gotten wet and they still work, only problem is that we have had set screws fall out, well sometimes shoot out, but other than that they are INDESTRUCTIBLE

If you got the money dude, go Ion. Get some kids that know how to work Ions and go in that direction, you'll probably end up with good buisness if you go in that direction....or you could just rent out Ego's.
