Low velocity

My brother's 05 interceptor is having velocity issues. It won't shoot above 200 fps. It has a new AKA SCMIII lpr, and my relatively new and well maintained CP reg (that never gave me problems with my own Alien). We tried relubing the ram and pushing the dwell up to 9.5. The bolt seems to slide freely, and there is no noticeable debris anywhere that could slow down the cycling speed. The LPR is now at ~90, much higher than we used to run it. I don't know what the HPR is at, but we backed out the adjustment screw all the way (before velocity started to decrease again.

Any thoughts? Might it be the valve?

I have a SCM III as well and couldnt get it above about 200fps (I just got the marker). After messing around with my cp reg I changed the battery, and it suddenly started to work after about 100 shots. Now it shoots at a normal pressure (around 80) instead of like 150 (which I had to put it at before). Maybe it was changing the battery? Try that.

The battery fix is the god of all tech. problems! Let us know if that doesn't work cause I'll run through a few possibilities.

I'll try the battery. Fortunately, I had my own Alien (also with an SCM3 - no problems), so he just used that and we didn't tech the marker in question at the field.

I'll feel dumb if it is the battery, but I hope that's the solution.

UPDATE: Batts are fine.

sounds like the problem I have with my 06. I'd send it to jack and let them figure it out. I tried all kinds of things and nothing worked. so I sent my gun back. haven't got it back yet. hopfully they can fix it

Since you have two Aliens you can do some great teching with very little effort. Fisrt try your HPR in his Alien. Then try your LPR in his marker without taking out your HPR. Then try your RAM/Solenoid without taking any of your stuff. That way you'll quickly find the culprit. The important part is not to adjust any of your regs. I would try to lower the LPR pressure to ~90psi. And a quick valve disassembly wight help, too.
May be it's just that the HPR is too high. If you lower the HPR and the LPR it might improve the speed.

um, try turning reg all teh way down, and then slowly turn up over chrono till right velocity? i sapose try stock dwell cause techincally the gun should work fine out of the box with stock dwell right? um, if your tank/on-off screw in completely? yeah battery.....
does the gun work with the stock lpr on it?

I tried turning the reg all the way in and then backing it out. The LPR is self-compensating, so I shouldn't have had to do anything with that to raise my velocity. The on/off was screwed in all the way, that's the first thing I suggested when my bro yelled for help at the chrony.

I'll try switching the solenoid and the lpr if necessary the next time I have access to a chrono.

turn up the lpr to 100-105 and see if its still only going to 200 fps. my brother's 05 had a similar problem, and turning up the lpr allowed it to shoot above the 215 it was stuck at, but putting it back down to a normal lpr pressure brought the problem back. i think the problem has something to do with the valve...

i'm going to be quite pissed if I have the same problem right now.

at the practice I couldn't get it shooting above 227. no matter how much I changed my hpr around (keep in mind I was using a centerflag reg that was old)

i'll be working on it tonight. Hope it's working better for tomorrow morning

Wish me luck guys (E2 for us this weekend)

um, doesit work completely stock? cause most of the ones having issues are using aftermarket parts. it kinda is silly, but who knows sometimes. anybody tried a stock setup (kinda if it aint broke dont fix it theary workin here).

Sorry I didn't follow up on this thread, I found basically the same solution as D. Its definately not ideal, but its good enough for my brother and he doesn't wanna fubar anything else.

He had the same problems with the stock lpr as with the scmIII.

i wanna see if a lucky air-assist valve would solve this, if they ever come out for interceptors, and if that dosent fix it, then something in or about the ram may be keeping it from pushing forward enough to get the valve all the way open.

A) hammer is not hitting hard enough.
B) Pin isn't opening enough
C) solenoid isn't charging long enough
D) Opposing force to ram movement.
E) somebody is stupid... low battery, low air tank

A) 1. Low air pressure to ram
a) Squished hose
b) Dirty seal in LPR
c) Dirt in line to Ram
d) Gasket turned over - don't laugh it happened

B) Spring is tilted in Front Block

C. Raise dwell until it works, if inconsistance, faulty solenoid or sticky ram

D. 1. Hammer is draging on hose or wire or...
2. Ram O'ring failure,
3. Body has been hit hard enough to indent, hits bolt and slows bolt down. Note around back of gun, at the top where it's cut away for the bolt pin.

D is The DRulesAll. His fix of raising the lpr to 100-105 worked for my brother's marker. This isn't an ideal fix imo, as that's pushing the limits of the solenoid. However, my bro is fine with this risk as long as it works for now :-/ Then again, the gauge could be reading high.

yeah and i dont really consider the hight lpr a fix either, only a temporary solution with a big kick...

jack- i believe you talked to my brother, matt lancto, and he is sending his 05 to you. im not sure whether or not he mentioned this problem to you or not, but when you get a black to gold 05 from him, it does indeed have the low velocity issue as well as what he mentioned before in his emails, so if all of the velocity problems are caused by a similar issue, maybe you guys could figure out the cause and solution by looking at my brothers gun

Hopefully so, it's just that this is the first time I've heard of any velocity issues, except the fact that sometime you step up to the chrono and it's going 350... after somebody has cleaned up and messed up the settings. Point is there is plenty of flow so it's just a matter of finding the limiting factor

not to rehash an old thread, but my 06 remains is doing the same thing, low velocity, i tried to bump up the dwell, i left the lpr at flush (since thats the highest, and adjusting my cp hpr doesn't do much.

only velocity changes i noticed were that with increasing the dwell, i would get an increase in velocity.

any results from the aforementioned interceptor??

I re-lubed everything and sent it to Jack, and somewhere in that course of events the problem disappeared never to return again, if thats of any help.
