He came to my college a couple of years ago and talked on behalf of the Republican committee. It was pretty funny some of the things that he had to say. Anywho, when he was done talking, and I got like 4 autographs from him, and a couple of pictures.

My parents seen him in concert not too long ago along with ZZ Top. I hear they are going to see him again this summer.

7800gtx go is expensive though, would be cheaper just to get a xps.

Dell makes very respectable laptops.

As others said your best bet would be just to spend $1000 or so on a laptop and save the rest. An Inspiron 6400 should do you nicely.

If you're planning on gaming get a cheaper laptop, then spend the rest on a good desktop

actually if you are able to get a xps code from ebay seller or anything, you can call dell and they sell 7800gtx at around $300, maybe higher or lower depending on coupons used. other than that, you need a 9 cell battery, powercable, xps BIOS, and maybe a north bridge heat sink depending on your preference. all this would be around $500, a 80 gig 1.83 Ghz 1G ram 9300 with coupon was $1100 when i bought it, would be under $1700 thus cheaper than xps.

Anyone who buys a dell is a moron. You get what you pay for, nothing more. The prices are great, because you get ****ty memory and ****ty hard drives, and a warranty plan so you can talk to some guy in indonesia for 3 hours when your crap *** motherboard explodes.

If you're "just going to use it for typing" then don't get a damn laptop. You can get much more out of a desktop than you can out of any laptop. You can get a ripping desktop and a used laptop for $1700...

Build it yourself and save a ton.

Yeah, buy a Mac. You will be able to run a whole 12 applications!

Macs are good for media, and that's it IMO.

PC all the way for anything else...of course...I do wish my PC was better for media editing, but it's a gaming PC...so I take my losses.

But I'd say Laptop. Look at Toshiba, they have very good laptops IMO. Non-Mac laptop just to be safe.

Funny, evidently you don't know much about hardware. Dell uses brand name components and the only thing I can gripe about is the choice of Maxtor drives, which I for whatever reason haven't had much luck with in the past. As for motherboards they use Intel made boards with Intel Chipsets, quite honstly are as good quality wise and stability as they get. Last time I opened a dell it had Infineon ram chips and for the price they don't get much better in DDR2.

As for built it yourself and save a tonn spill...

You build a computer for $272. Give it a 2.5Ghz processor, 17'' Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse, 1yr hardware warranty, and the O/S. I use to be in the same boat as you, All OEM's suck, build your own system, stick it to the man. But you know what? I got tired to teching every damn computer because Jr desided to download porn on kazza and mom thought the bonzi buddy was cute. From now on I tell them to get a dell, I'll let them deal with it.

EDIT: I've worked on many OEM's, Compaq, Sony, HP, E-Machines, Gateway, Acer, IBM, and even Dells. I'll tell you stright up, Compaq sucks, Emachines are worse, HP is not great, Gateway is better. Even the beloved Sonys arn't steller, just because it has a Sony label doen't make it good, infact they are as propriety and any compaq or E-Machines I've worked on. Dell's are still in the OEM boat but they don't suck nearly as bad.
