Pros: great marker for a beginer
Cons: power but is hard to press
I purchased one of these that only had about a case of paint through it used for my son to start out with. A friend told me about them he used one playing speedball tourneys along side 4 egos and kept up with them for the most part.

This gun hangs with my DM as far as speed but the accuracy is no where near as good. I can actually shoot this slightly faster. The air seems to last pretty good for him he plays 2 or 3 games before needing a refill.

I took this marker apart to clean and grease after a long day of pouring down rain, I have rebuilt engines in less time than it took to put it all back together. It just didn't want to go back together so I could put one screw in. The power button is so hard to press that I usually have to turn it on or off for him.

Smart Parts Ion I had this marker as my second marker. It was a great entry level gun for me since I was just getting into the tournement scene.

I have 2 woodsball ions ans 1 speedball ion. I love ions and will allways love them. They work great for me and also have cheap upgrades. I have virtue and techt parts in all mine because that is the only products i will put in them. I can keep up with the fastest and expensive markers out there and mine still dosent cost as much as some of the others.

Pros: shoots decent, easy to change modes
Cons: unreliable, sucks to maintain, sloppy trigger pull
Let me start by saying I've had 2 of these guns one I used for a month without any problems then traded for a better gun the other I still have as a spare gun. This review is based mostly on the ion that I still currently own. Got both shortly after it came out in 05 bought one new after the price dropped a bit got the other in a trade in my favor (5yo spider victor w/gravity fed hopper and co2 tank for a new ion w/ vl egg).

Appearance: It's quite a good looking gun despite the fact that you can tell that it was made cheaply (mostly plastic). The fact that the body kit can be changed definitely adds to the styling of the gun.

Performance: It's very easy to change firing modes on this gun with its one button design. It shoots fairly straight and quick for a gun its price. The only downside to its performance in my opinion is the somewhat sloppy trigger feel.

Reliability: Terrible. Almost every time I used it something else would go wrong with it. I've had to replace my board because a solenoid went bad, had to fix my reg on 3 separate occasions due to leaks (different spot each time), replaced my power button because it stopped working after being used for a few months.

Value: For what I paid its not that bad but I'd never buy another one of these things.

Pros: many after market parts for it
Cons: resale value
there is not too many people in the paintball industry that has not owned this gun.. this gun has been in almost everyone’s collection. sad thing is that once you have it, it is hard to sale. i still have mine in case a buddy of mine wants to play. the ion is one of those guns that you can customize it to not look like an ion at all. every part on an ion can be bought in after market. it cost me $250 back in 2008 now is worth $75... still had fun with it and called it my sniper back in the day. went through to much head ache to just get rid of it but if ever decide to buy one, think twice

Pros: Tons of upgrades, good entry level elctro
Cons: upgrades can be costly
This was one of the first electro's I purchased as I slowly made my way into the speedball scene. For what is was worth, it performed well for a stock entry level marker. There was a hole in the market at the time for a low cost electro and the Ion fit it well. Plenty of upgrades to improve on the looks and performance. Cleaning became to be a pain with the hoses in the body and the air efficiency was not great without upgrading. Nonetheless it withstood a ton of abuse and provided me many solid outings on the field.

Ion is a great gun for new players or as a back up but it's a bit finicky and will have problems out of the blue. It's cheap but terrible unless you put upgrades into it which cost a lot and does not effect resale. Resale sucks.
