so i started paintball3 years ago with a spyder bought a wrath then a vintage matrix. so far the ion is my favorite gun. its easy to maintain, very upgradable, fast. my only dislikes are the fact that it is very ugly and there isnt bolt out back stock (at least on the 05 model). but i would recomend this gun but be prepared to be looked at as a "noob" at your local field regaurdless of the years youve been playing.

Cons: O-Rings
Ion, the tippman of speedball the induscructable maker. you can not break an ion in any physical way! This is a great starter Gat shoots 17bps stock, Right out of the box you should lube it though. The O-Rings is the only thing i have lost/Broken. The dwell is good stock trigger i don't like but i took the magnet out shoots very well it dont sitck it bouncy. Very well marker low matance. from my consern best marker get a virtue and your up to 24 bps then you can multiple frame's. You can up this gun to the max i am shooting 22 bps on semi with tadao board (ion on the way) the only ups are maxflo, 360 qev,cp shorty reg, board virtue or tadao. feedneck a must have Q-lock or hybird. Grips mini if you want lighter new bolt deadly winds. great bolt. barrel. AA or Freak. Both are excelent. Thanks, Desmond

Pros: Good gun for price paid
Cons: Lacks range, have had it break down a couple times
I would have to say that it's probably one of the better guns that you can get for the price. It's not bad on ROF, and is easy to fix and clean. It does have some drawbacks. It's range is really pretty bad when you get to like a third of air left. You should always have HPA if thats an option, but with this gun it's a must have.

Very good starting marker for someone just getting into playing. Very little work needs to be done to keep the marker up and working. I consider it the " Honda Civic" of the paintball world, so many different direction you can go with customizing this marker to make it one of a kind.

Pros: cheap, performs great
Cons: maintinence
i have had a few ions, and all of them have performed as advertised. once upgraded, there isnt anything the ion cant do that another companies high end cant. if the end user is competent, they will enjoy many years of service from the gun.

to counter the poster above, the gun is manufactured with different processes than others, thus the low price. the frame is cast instead of machined from a billet. this is cheaper, and still stronger than it needs to be. the internals are probably machined extrusions, but of a quality sufficient to perform fine. the shell is plastic, but that is irrelevant.

let me also say that if you are expecting it to be the best out there, you are mistaken, but i would not hesitate to play any event with an ion

Everything people say about the ION is wrong. It will take care of you if you take care of it, hands down. It shoots very well, has break beam eyes, and the only thing that NEEDS to be replaced is the feedneck.
