I would recommend the ion to anyone getting into the sport. It is probably the best gun for its price. Also its very upgradeable and light. But in my mind it doesn't look very nice.

In my opinion if you buy an ion don't upgrade it like many people do. I made this mistake and put lots of money into an ion. It will shoot good but believe me you will want to buy a high end. Because no matter how up's an ion is and no matter how good you are you will never get respenct.

So start out with an ion. Get better and buy a highend.

Pros: Not expensive
Cons: Internals
I was trying to break out of woodsball. I had a Tippmann A5, and I thought I'd get out of it my Ion. It was a good gun to begin with, but as I began to play more and more, I realized that it wasn't the greatest gun in the world.

Personally, I thought the body kits were a great idea, but at 30 bucks for a little plastic shell and 100 dollars for a Dynasty shell, I thought that was just too much for some flimsy bit.

I will say that it performed well, but the internals weren't always the most reliable. Playing in cold Chicagoland weather, my solenoid would stop clicking, and I would have to take apart my entire gun just to get the solenoid to begin to click again. The stock board though was very hard to operate, and a must have is the Virtue board. It is reliable and hasn't failed me once yet.

As for reliability, you can pretty much drop this thing without any damage, and for the price, it's a pretty decent marker. For a person just starting out, it's a great gun because it's easy to figure out, but after a while you will definitely want to upgrade.

Pros: A great starter marker
Cons: to many accessories
The Smart Parts Ion, A great Paintball marker for those who are just getting started in this great sport. With little maintance this gun is good for players who want a gun that can keep up with highend markers without a big cash investment. The cons to this marker for me is that they're is just to many accessories. I like to call it the Honda civic of the paintball world, From being able to customize the entire body, adding new boards triggers regs ect you might as well buy a high end gun alot of people put in a lot of cash into this marker yet when it comes to resale value you will not be getting what you put into it. My advice keep maintaining when needed add a board and maybe a trigger if your planning to deck it out in the end it will be a let down invest in a higher end marker or keep it stock and roll with the big guns As far as performance its a great bang for your buck can shoot ropes if you know how to set it up, but can also cause problems if one or 2 settings are off. These are personal experiences that have happened to me and might not have happened to you. As for the look its a small tight decent low profile marker and probably one of the best starter speedball guns out there.

Pros: Cheap, Shoot Well
Cons: Break a lot/unreliable
I hade an ion for about 8 months. The gun was good in the sense that it shot fast, you can customize them any way, and thatit was a cheap purchase. But in order to move up, most people will have to sell their ions. The major problem I had with mine was that the dang thing broke lots and lots of times. I had many problems with the bolt and internal gas leaks in the gun. But when there were no problems. It ripped. I recromend this gun as a starter or second gun to have. It was my first electronic gun, and I liked moving away from mechanical.

Price paid: $160.00
Pros: Decent board, cheap, lasts a while
Cons: FEED NECK, Regulator, stock trigger
To start off, I'd have to say Smart parts did a TERRIBLE job with the feedneck on this gun. i mean, the O-rings on it break after putting on and taking off a hopper twice or so!PLUS, its almost impossible to get a hopper into it, other than using say, an Evolution 3 hopper. What the heck Smart Parts? Next thing, I'd have to say the stock Regulator is HIGHLY inaccurate, my paint flew everywhere when I first used it compared to my little brother's VIBE . Other than those 2 things, this gun is well designed, and 100% customizeable. You can upgrade every little piece of this gun to make it better. (Well, thats what smart parts wants you to do, they give you some crappy stock stuff, and make you pay loads of cash to make it any good, and in the end, all the cash spent on making it better could have paid for a Bob Long vice! Which just about needs no upgrades!) So, back on topic (sorry). Decent gun for many new xball players (As mentioned before) and can easily be made better. The board is easy to use, yet it eats batteries very quickly. So when using this gun, always carry a few 9volts just in case you need em.
The stock barrel on this gun isn't the greatest, yet is decent for all the stock parts on it.
So, that pretty much sums it up. Just going to put a quick budget-type setup for this gun, for those of you looking into getting one of these phenominal guns, and on a strict budget.

Hopper: Evolution 3 (Egg) Works great, yet is rather easy to shoot from a distance (Around $60 without tax)

Tank: 3000 psi:47 ci aluminum tank (around $60)

Clamping feedneck: Come in many colors, and are HIGHLY recommended ($40)

Once you have those 3 things, you're good to go!

Pros: For the price, there is nothing better
Cons: ugly with stock body, ignorant people's oppinion
I bought my Ion back in 05 right after they where released. In all honesty, it has never broken down, and has seen a good 2 full years or use. It shoots smooth, fast and accurate. It's great on air and has been a pleasure to own. I don't understand why people hate on it so much, for the price there is nothing better. Considering used ones go for roughly $100, if you are on a budget, or just want a great gun for cheap so you can buy more equipment, I would strongly suggest the Ion.

Much love for my Ion

Pros: Reliable, keeps up with high end guns.
Cons: People's views on them because of kids who act BA.
This gun is VERY good for it's price. I would recommend it to any player who wants to get into the Speedball or even the Woodsball scene. It has a lot of upgrades and can shoot like a High End with the proper upgrades. The only thing that I would say is bad about this gun is the rep that people give it because of kids who are starting and buy an Ion and act like they're pro/the best at the sport.

This gun is a piece of ****. I never wanted this at all but money was a problem so this was the way to go. when i first got it, it worked fine except the feedneck sucked, its a gas hog, low bps, and the on/off button. When i took it to the field, i used some high quality dxs hellfire and the gun kept chopping with the eyes on. So I took it home and decided to open it up and maintain it. it took about an hour at least to get to the firing can and bolt. I lubed it and played again another day. The fps was really low to shoot the paint and turned the reg screw all the way up. Still wont shoot. I gave up and threw this piece of crap in the close and haven't touched it since. I now use an 05 freestyle since 06 and its been great.

its gay, dont get it, your better off with an slg.

**** smart parts (except for shockers)

ok i bought an ion last summer and i cant say i have been too happy with it... i have paid more shipping it back and forth to the factory and getting it fixed then i have on the marker and all of the upgrades... it shot ok when it worked but it seems every time i shot it something else would go wrong and id have to ship it back... i tried buying upgrades but that did not really help... i hated this gun and i do not recomend it to anyone...

in fact pm me if you want a list of guns that you can get for $200 or less that are much nicer and user freindly than an ion!!!
