Pros: Price, Proformance, Upgradable
Cons: The upgrades needed out of the box, Cleaning it
Well, I bought my Ion the same week they came out. I have owned 7 of them to date. I dont see the problem that everybody has with these markers. I have shot almost every gun out there. This is not a high end gun by no means, but can be built up to compete with the big guys out there for a fraction of a price. These little guys come out of the box shooting 17 bps. you cant ask for anymore than that at this price.

Pros- Fast out of the box. Light. You can change looks easily. Upgrades avalible for it. Breakbeam eyes, low operating psi.

Cons-The stock feedneck is terrible, the power button, The ASA are a joke, The disassembly to clean it, and AIR EFFICANCY.

Recomened upgrades- asa, qev, feedneck, and bolt

Overall I gave this marker a B+. Due to the fact that this is the marker that changed the game for all of us. Its design is Ok at best, But its proformance almost covers that up.

I've been playing paintball for years. When i first got into speedball i bought the smartparts ion. at first, compared to my extremely low end markers i used before it, it was beautiful. but slowly it fell apart. compared to other guns faced on the field, its extremely thick and heavy. it shoots decently fast, but not what i would prefer, and honestly i don't think i've ever met someone who hasn't had to perform constant maintenance on it.

all in all, it's a good gun to buy to start out with. but if you are planning on playing any tournaments, and you want a reliable gun. go with something planet eclipse. not smartparts

Pros: Cheap, Easy to upgrade, Moderately Fast
Cons: Cheap, Modrately Fast, Unreliable, Bad Stock Parts
I bought my ion when they were first released. I've used it twice a month since then. When i first got it I replaced the feedneck and trigger. When the body kits were released I went out and bought one of those too.

My first day of use many of the factory settings were bad causing massive shootdown. Once these were fixed my reg recharge rate couldnt keep up with my rof. I put up with this for almost 6 months hoping that it'd break in and fix itself like some guns do. When it didn't i went out and bought an evil reg.
The stock board is complicated at first but once you get used to it it's very easy to work. Cleaining of the marker is a huge pain in the *** but the fact that it will not chop (i tried everything to make it chop a ball with my halo and not a single one broke in the breech. The old paint broke in the barrel but never in the breech)
Its hard on air and sure as hell a battery drainer. But the endless upgrade oppurtunities help offset all of these problems

this gun caused me lots of grief since it was my first electronic gun and nobody warned me that it broke so easily ans wasn't very good... don't get me wrong this gun can be great! if you put about $200-$300 worth of upgrades into it... the thing on this that was the worst was the reg... then the board was a little unreliable (i fried mine from shooting to fast) (no joke lol) so the board is a definate upgrade...

Smart Parts Ion Okay I may not know much about paintball but the Ion is one of the best guns I have ever used. I have played paintball for more than a year and I used to play with a spyder. The Ion is way better.

Cons: Sneers from noobs
I bought mine from this forum as junk. Let me tell you, I made chicken salad out of chicken $h!t. Upgraded it to the best that money had to offer, and it does keep up with higher end markers. Just remember it only takes one ball to get you out!

Lightweight, and ease of upgradebility makes this, IMO a winning choice.

I have a number of other mid priced markers, but I have fun with the ION.

Just my .02 cents

appereance: this thing looks a bit beyond ugly! plastic everything!, even the feedneck is god awful.

performance: lol...what performance, balls go EVERYWHERE execpt other players unless u barrel tag, this gun is hopeless and its not worth the money to get all those cheezy upgrades

reliability: yeah....none whats so ever. out of the box its okay but then it all goes to hell pretty soon. and it leaks from everywhere...and everything is just really poorly made and thats why its so cheap =(

value: not at all worth the money! save up and get like an invert mini...at least the mini doesnt have this many problems

Pros: looks cool, low maintnence, good beginers gun
Cons: leaks, boards
i bought this gun used for 120 and at first it was a great gun, it shot great looked great and kept up with others using things like mini's, shocker's, and things like it, but because this gun is made to use an intergrated tank, u can choose to purchase an intergrated tank which is about $200, or adjust it, and when adjusting it it will often leak which gets anoying when after every match u have to do something to fix the leak. another major negative i have noticed about this gun is that the boards are horrible, they are very confusing to adjust things, aand after 3 months using my gun the board broke all together, and because smart parts closed down its very hard to find spare parts, so all in all i would not recomend this gun. but if u do decide to buy it be ready to waste all the money u thought u saved by buying this rather than a higher end gun on fixing this gun
