The Maniac Ego was a late model 2006 edition of the Planet Eclipse Ego6. It included all of the standard features of the Ego6, and several upgrades. The most notable is the special "Maniac" board, which included a 25bps capped ramping mode. Also the Maniac Egos came with an SL66 ASA, 2 piece Shaft barrel, Star high pressure regulator, and C Lever Feed Neck. Maniacs were released in several limited edition colors. No longer in production.

I bought my sand origin maniac in january of 2007, it was my first ego and it was what started me into loving them so much. It's never let me down, and is everything you want/need in a gun... Fast, Very efficient, easily adjustable... The list goes on.
These can be found for less than $500 now, I'd pick one up, no need for upgrades and shoots tits right out of the box!

Cons:
-Slight Kick
-(IMO) one of the ugliest egos, but still better looking than a lot of guns
-Heavy as far as egos go. (still WAY lighter than the DM6)
-Not as Smooth as a DM -but if you're willing to sacrifice that for much more reliability and speed it doesn't matter.
Recommended Upgrades:
-Cure
-Dye UL Barrel
-Adjustable back cap.
I traded my DM6 for an 06 Origin Maniac Ego. (great trade) I've had this marker for a little over a month now, and it hasn't given me any problems. It is easy to maintain, clean, and use. -A really well made piece of machinery. I have owned an E-tek in the past- there is no comparison. after shooting a true Ego, I'll never shoot anything else. My next gun will definitely be another Ego. Planet Eclipse, you make one hell of a product

This has been a great gun, since I bought it back in 2006. Its reliability has been impeccable. I haven't had to change an o-ring until this past winter. I've played in the dead of Michigan winter, the Atlanta heat, the Florida humidity, the sands of southern California, and tournaments nationwide without a hiccup. Ego reliability at its finest. Simply lubing the necessary o-rings and its ready to go.
Downside
The kick is pretty substantial, but a rammer kick fixes that up quite well
shot to shot velocity consistency isn't great, no despite quality paint, and a good barrel match, but that seems to be the price of reliability and gas efficiency with this design.
accuracy is good, but don't expect spool valve groupings
If you are lucky enough to find one of these relatively low volume markers, it has all electronics you need to play, with a fully customizable board. Considering how old the marker is, I'm sure it can be had for a great deal and provide many more years of sold use.
