A few months ago I was at Doodlebug Sportz and was looking forward to purchasing my new marker. I looked around the gun racks and the DM8 caugt my eye. The way it flowed and the beauty is amazing at first sight. I settled on the Cobalt to black fade.

When I got the marker to my house, I opened it up and read the manual (ya, i actually read them sometimes) before breaking it down. First I messed with the board. It's very simple to understand and adjustments are easy and quick to make. I also took out the bolt to make sure everything was perfect and ready out of box. The anno on the gun was flawless, no pitching, no scratches at all.

When I first shot it I noticed that even straight out of the box there was almost no noticable kick. I continued to dry fire and then decided to run some paint through. Before I shot paint I adjusted the UL frame. The UL is something else. The pull is so smooth and the frame feels so natural in your hand. It's not all boxy like other frames, it's curved to fit your hand. I shot some rounds on semi and then decided to switch over to psp. The gun shot ropes at 18 bps goldwaved which is good enough for me.

On the field the DM8 is incredible. I played in 40* weather and had no FSDO at all. The only complaint that I had was that my airport leaked. I just took it apart and put on an o-ring from the small parts kit included in the box and it was all good though. The dm8 is noticably light as you carry it around and is easy to snap with and just to move around in general.

So far I have put over 5 cases through the gun and have only had 1 chop the entire time. The one chop happend in the snow in 30* weather so you can make of that what you will. After constantly shooting the gun, It gets smoother and smoother as it gets worked in. It's like a fune wine, getting better and better with age.

Bottom Line: The DM8 is light, fast, smooth, easy to maintain contrary to popular belief, and good on paint. I really don't know what else you'd want in a marker but I'm sure the DM8 will be the perfect marker for you.

Pros: Light, More efficient than pre-DM7, Consistent
Cons: Price
Consistency: Very consistent on the first day of use, didnt really even have to break it in to get good consistency.

Efficiency: about 5 pods and hopper with 48/45 filled to 4k. Not broken in completely

Quiet! Like every other spool...seemed quieter than my droid or maybe just a different sound signature.

No kick whatsoever but thats what you come to expect from a spool

Hyper3 is very comfy to grip and has been consistent over the chrono

Trigger: side to side play but hasnt affected how fast the gun can shoot (maybe upgrade to critical if you like the style better)

Eye system: Its really not as bad as some say or make it out to be, you have to do it a few times to get used to it and after awhile it was fairly easy to do. It was raining this past weekend when I used it and had no issues with the eyes. Perfectly clean inside the breech, possibly because of the lack of eye covers.

Cons: Hyper 3, UL trigger...
I will start off by saying that the DM8 is badass. I love it. It shoots super smooth and quiet. I was actually surprised how consistent it was at the chrono +/- 7 or so. And efficiency did not seem to be very bad at all...I have a 70/45 and I estimate that I could shoot a hopper and 9 pods off a 4K fill. I also haven't broken a ball yet. My only real complaints about this marker are the stock UL trigger (I just don't like the shape of it), and the Hyper 3 reg. The reg is very comfortable, but it is always turning. The swivel feature is nice, but nothing locks the swivel into place so the rubber sheath and the reg are always moving and it was a minor annoyance.

Overall it is an amazing piece of machinery, and I highly recommend it. You get what you pay for...

Pros: Accurate, Light, Consistant
Cons: Lube the gun after every day of play
Design - This gun has evolved since the old school matrixes back in the day. Dye has made every effort to involve players in the manufacturing of these guns. This has allowed this gun to evolve into what it is today. The DM8 has the player in mind the throughout the gun. With the new Hyper 3 regulator being so small, Dye put a nice rubber cover over the regulator to allow for a firmer grip on the gun. Many players put grip tape on the regulator anyway, Dye saw that and made the adjustment. The new-eye system is made for the player in mind. All you have to do is take the plastic cover out and wipe it off to allow for quick cleaning for Xball matches. Again, Dye saw this in tournaments where players had a tough time cleaning eyes quickly. Along with the Ultralight frame, UL Barrel, and all the other goodies that come with the Matrix Series, this gun is the best gun out there right now.

Efficiency - I haven't played with it enough to get a correct reading on how efficient it is. The Hyper 3 takes around 3-4 cases before it gets totally broken in.

Accuracy - The first day of play I noticed how I was shooting out player where I haven't before with my other gun. The gun is ball on ball accurate, if you get a barrel break, just shoot 2-3 balls and it cleans out and it shoots accurately again. I also noticed my snap shots became more accurate, and in turn, I generated more kills per game because of it.

Reliability - So far I haven't had any problems, but I haven't had the gun for very long so time will tell. If you lube your matrix after every day of play, you shouldn't have any problems.

Value - This gun's Manufacture Price is $1400, I would like to see Dye make it closer to $1000, like most manufacturers have done. I received this gun through my team for a ridiculous price so I can't complain. But, for those who do have to pay full price, it would be nice if Dye could lower the price in the guns closer to $1000.

The DM8 is a very reliable gun. It has not gone down on me and I use it every weekend. It is a very simple gun to take care of. Just simple lube the bolt, change the battery and you're golden. One upgrade I recommend is the billy wing bolt and the ironmen trigger. It was make the gun shoot and feel so much better.
