This is a great marker for the scenario, mil-sim or field player. It's easy to find relatively inexpensive upgrades for, but out of the box it is solid and reliable and looks good. I would put in in the same class as a Tippmann A-5 or X-7 for performance. It outclasses the 98 Custom, SP-1, US Army and the other A-5 clones out there. Most (but not all) Spyder upgrades and parts will fit this marker and you can dress it up with upgrades for not very much money.
As with any marker, keep it clean and take care of it. The MR1 is something you can give to your grandkids if you treat it right.
I have added the following and I am quite happy. Apex Barrel - $49.50 - Ebay CAR Stock - $50.00 - Ebay Sight Riser - $12.00 - DMC Paintball Red Dot Sight - $15.00 - Ebay Spyder Classic Single Trigger Frame - $50.00 - Ebay Coiled Remote - $35.00 - Local Shop Carbon Fiber 300/68 HPA Tank - $189
I bought a QLoader with a direct mount adapter and it chopped paint all over the place. The local QLoader rep said he could tune it for free, but even as cool as it looks I prefer to use a standard hopper - they always work as long as there is gravity.
All in all it is a great marker and I would recommend it to anyone that is in the market.
Try to buy one from a local shop or an individual if you can - Wal-Mart sells them, but Wal-Mart is evil and you should try to support the local shops that support the sport.

Awesome mechanical gun for the money. easy to modify into a respectable mil-sim marker. Stock barrel doesnt have any porting except in the last 2 inches = more than loud. shoulder stock can be easily modified into a dog-ear that allows for sighting down the barrel. this makes the angled feedneck actually a bonus. very reliable marker. if you happen to pull the heavy, long traveling trigger fast enough to chop, it will pretty effectively shoot out the paint quickly. surprisingly accurate with a dye ultralight. not a good choice for airball (unless you want to play back and invest in a nice barrel) but a respectable and reliable choice for woodsball.

Well this is my first gun and it has taught me alot...
first off this gun is very reliable it will take a beating and just keep going.. the paint on the outside doesn't come off although since the majority or the outside is metal it will scratch and viola ... you have nice shiny scratches...
Stock: the gun does come with a removal stock although you cant wear it with a mask unless you dogleg it and cut the top off...
Chopping: the gun doesn't chop lots although it will under the right circumstances (crappy paint, cold weather).
Barrel: although the barrel is loud it still is nice.. it's 12" which is an ok size.. i would recommend upgrading to a SP Linear, Progressive, or Freak Jr. Kit.
Loader: i would recommend somthing which does about 15bps so it will always keep up.. unless you plan on getting an e-trigger or the rocking trigger i would then recommend something from 20-25 bps.
Upgradability: This gun can be upgraded with jsut aobut anything! From stocks, barrels, scopes, trigger frames... whatever you can think of basically.
Downsides: The gun is overeall great although there are a few problems.. such as a unique grip hole placement on the sotckk trigger frame... the screw hole placement is a .45 but the top hole is moved upwards a bit.. jsut enough that you cant get any aftermarket grips... which sucks!.. anothing thing is the SS Hose has it's own unique thread so you will have to buy an adapter to get any different hosing or anything else... the ASA is a unique thing too.. there is a VERY limited amount of adapters for that.. they cost from 10-30$... which is gay...
Other things: it'll run both co2 and HPA so no worries there.. it's heavy
Conclusion: If your on a budget, a noob looking to start out, or jsut want a cheap military style gun with plenty of upgrades... get it

Slow, not too many accessories available, unlike Tippmann.
Original Review - 3/19/08 - "I won my MR-1 at a paintball event last spring (Castle Conquest Spring '07 @ EMR Paintball Park in northern PA), and ever since I've loved it. The simplicity of it's construction lends itself towards being very reliable. It's hard to screw up the mechanics of the marker, especially if you are paying attention to what you are doing when you strip it down and clean it. The marker performs well, with above-average accuracy and range. I've paired mine with a J&J Performance barrel, and a Viewloader Evolution II hopper. I also run my marker on CO2 exclusively. While I can't say I haven't chopped paint (who honestly can), it was only when the paint was very brittle, and waaay smaller than the inside diameter of my barrel. Since using it, I've modified it with a different trigger frame. I'm actively seeking ways to make it more mil-sim in appearance, and can't wait for more MR-1 specific parts/upgrades."
Follow Up Review - 8/17/11 - About 2 years ago (Christmas 2009) I was gifted a Tippmann Alpha Black Tactical w/ E-Grip. After that, I stopped using, and have since sold my MR-1. You don't really know how poorly a marker is actually performing until you regularly use something that is much better. I've since gotten a Tippmann A-5, a WGP Trilogy, a Tracer pump, a SmartParts SP-1, and a pair of Tippmann 98's. All of these guns, including the pumps, perform better than any Spyder marker I've ever touched! Try something else - you'll be glad you did. Bottom line - A Tippmann 98 Custom out performs and out customizes an MR-1 any day of the week. I've got one w/ a Reaction trigger on it, and it easily out-shoots any fanning of the trigger I was able to do on my MR-1, way back when. And if you couple a 98 w/ a Cyclone feed, good-bye MR-1.

New elbow:Trinity T-lock neck Mr series
New hopper
Better Barrel.
This gun is a beast i recommend it to anybody who want a cheap reliable gun. I highly reccomend a trinity t-lock neck because i had to sit out a game because my elbow broke. the barrel is actually pretty accurate for stock.

This is a good gun considering it was only 100 dollars. It's accurate and ready to go straight out of the box. I would reccomend getting a new barrel though. Spyder makes a 16 inch barrel specifically for the MR1 and it has worked out well for me. The rails on top have allowed me to put scopes, handles, lasers, and more on. It has been dropped 20 feet from towers onto rocks and only gotten a scratch or two. Solid metal construction. I would also suggest getting a low velocity electronic hopper, if you think you will be shooting a lot.

this gun for starters is amazing at the cost. i got a package deal on my marker came with hopper, 20oz Co2, barrell squeegie, harness, 4 pods with shipping and everything cost me around 190 all was needed was a tank fill and your out on the field.
this gun shoots accurate, durable, easy to maintain "remove a snap bolt on the side and delrin bolt and everything slides out." looks great.
downsides to the marker
trigger you have a long distance to pull before it shoots, slows down your shot pull. and clamping feedneck is a must because plastic elbow wont cut it when it snaps on you. but for the cost of the gun couldn't get any better then this.
even expensive guns you have to upgrade the feedneck

Kingman Group Spyder MR1A really great gun. Upgradeable, and very user friendly. I would reccommend to anyone who needs a good backup marker or as a woodsball gun.

Had one problem with it- the front grip isnt an expanshion chamber and the mr-1 drop forward dosent fit the rocking triggers holes so i had to get a new dropforward for $5 of ebay and problem solved.
this is my main gun and i use it alot and i have had mayby 4 balls break in it and it just kept on going withought me having to disasembel it. the one time it did jam i fixet it realy fast- take out the bolt( slides out the back withought removing the strip-pin or disconnecting your air source) wipe it with your shirt, squigi it withought removing your barrel and slide the bolt back in place the correct side down and put the pull pin back in it, cock and SHOOT all takes about 20 sec
