I bought this for my dad's birthday one year because he was interested in playing. Its a good gun for someone wanting to play for the first time. With his marker, during a long game on more than one occasion: the bolts holding in the trigger frame would come loose, wasn't a major problem... Just annoying. A good buy for anyone who's interested in playing but not super serious about playing just yet.

Cons: the blue color sticks out a little bit
I've had this gun for 5 years and have never had a problem with it. It has always worked for me and shoots great. I upgraded it with a 14" J&J barrel two weeks after I bought it and to this day can shoot a soup can from 50 yds away every time. It was my first gun and I recently bought a MR1 cause I like to spend money (and also so my brother could play) and I would rather play with the xtra than the MR1. But that might just be cause I've got the xtra down to a science and the MR1 is still new to me. If you can get this gun for under 50 bucks with a decent barrel I would consider it a steal.

Cons: none for beginners
The 2002 Spyder Xtra was my first paintball marker It served me well and now it is my loaner marker 5 years later Its a sentimental piece. I could always count on it to shoot no matter what and for some reason that polished blue anno always had people asking what gun it is haha. If you are new to the sport and have minimal cash find one and get it fun little gun to use and could be burred in the ground and i promise it will still shoot
