There's no way to even pad an Xtra review. It's a beginner gun. The reason it needs to be reviewed is for a point I think no one else will hit on. This is a superior beginner marker for the sole reason that it's set up like other paintball markers. Really the only thing this is going up against is the BT and Tippmann lines. I like those guns, they can certainly take a licking, but with the off set feedneck and long body it's hard to make the switch from a low end mech to a higher end electro. If your used to sighting down the barrel, once you have to play a bunker, it gets ackward and most kids never really learn proper snap shooting techniques which is the first essential thing a kid should learn about the sport. Action Village now has this gun in a package for a hundred bucks which gives you everything you need to step onto a paintball field. If I could go back in time and relearn the game, I'd buy that package and focus on my snap shooting till I needed to focus on break outs and running.
Also, another reason I recommend this gun is as a training tool for more accomplished players. I own an Ego 7 and every couple of practices I'll break out the xtra and play with it for the day. The only upgrade I put on it is the barrel, which I replace with my freak so at least it maintains the accuracy. Hitting the field with a slow shooter like this really makes you focus on your accuracy, movement and teamwork rather then raw fire power. Try it out for about half the day and then switch back to your electro and tell me you don't notice a difference.
As far as upgrades go, if I were a kid just getting into the sport, my first upgrade would be a multi bore barrel system so they can get used to matching paint to their barrel. That's all I'd upgrade. I know breaks suck, but when you get right down to it, they happen and they'll always happen no matter what. It's tough love but having to deal with gun breaks teaches you to take care of your marker. Save the electric hopper for a gun that can actually utilize it.
So there you have it, everyone says it about every low end gun, but this really is a great gun for beginners to learn on rather then an electro that they'll just throw on full auto and blow through a case a paint in 2 hours. The player who actually wants to get into the sport and learn how to play will do well to train with this and I even think that advanced players could get something out of it.

This was the first gun I ever used. It was loaned to me by a friend's friend back in 2005 (the price field won't let me enter zero). Vertical feed, rear cocking, CO2 workhorse. There's nothing fancy with this gun, it just was made with the essentials to shoot paintballs.
spyders are inherently easy to fix, the person who loaned it to me must have known spyders inside-out though. I was so new to the sport I didn't even know to shake a gravity hopper. Unbelievably, the thing actually uncocked when it pinched a ball instead of breaking it! Of course, I was so new it took me 20 minutes hiding in the tall grass to figure out all I had to do was cock the bolt again.
I was lucky. It is a mech blowback. In its stock form it will chop given the chance, so use an agitated hopper. You can't fire very fast on a mech trigger. Anything other than a Quantum loader will do.
If you do plan to upgrade this gun, know that the grip frame holes for the ASA are offset (unless you have 2007 or newer, it will also be top-cocking) so you would need an offset-to-inline adaptor. Also, the hoses are in metric threads.
Appearance: nothing fancy. It's a stacked tube body with minor milling to make it look decent.
Performance: nothing fancy here either. Heavy mech trigger, standard blowback kicks.
Reliability: this is where all starter guns shine. it's designed to withstand lack of maintenance but you should still clean it to keep it performing well.
Value: hey, it was loaned to me, but for $80 new it's a decent deal. If you're lucky enough to know someone who can fix these things (it's cakewalk) in case they break then go for the ultimate bargain and buy a used one for like $40...

i bought it off of a friend, it performs well except for the trigger, i'd have rather had a single, im not a big fan of double triggers.so far it has never chopped paint, and my friend said that it never chopped any, he's shot about 10,000 rounds, and i've shot nearly 1,000. i took the bottom line and the sight rail off and i love it, although, i am already thinking about gettin a new marker. i haven't got to play with it yet, but my friend said it plays good in all weather, so i hope to test this. all in all i say it is a decent gun, but if you can buy another barrel it will be a good gun

Bought this as a mech compliment & backup to my e99. Also, the baby blue color looked cool.
It's a nice mech, reliable, easy to maintain, can take some abuse. But overpriced, as it was equivalent to every other mech spyder. Kingman's cheapest mech at the time, the Victor, was identical in every way except looks. Yay for Kingman's focus on aesthetics as a justifiable upgrade?
All in all, i liked it for reasons first mentioned.

Kingman Group Spyder XtraThis was my first marker. I was very happy with it for woodsball.
It does chop a bit, but a faster hopper will help that ALOT.
It is very easy to clean.
