This was my first marker, a great gun to start with. For me i never had any problems.
You can play in the worst rain, and it still works.
Doesn't need constant maintanence, when it needs it, it's not that hard to do.
Would recomend to change the barrel.

This is a great 2nd marker once you are ready to move up from a low end mechanical or cheap electronic and don't want to spend the money for something like an ETEK. It is also great if you want to upgrade as you can afford more. When I first got the ION XE it was a vast improvement over my 98 ACT. My only complaints were the consistency of my shots. I was getting up to a 10-20 fps variation per shot. After I put in a new bolt and a qev, the shot to shot variation dropped to 1-2 fps. This is with a Freak barrel kit so I am not sure what the stock barrel gives.

In short, if you can afford something better or already plan on upgrading get that instead of the ION XE. Otherwise if this is what you can afford now, get it and upgrade over time with a TectT bolt, 360 QEV, locking feedneck, and Freak barrell kit.

I use this for woodsball and scenarios but you could probably also use it for rec speedball.

Cons: feedneck, air, grips
I traded this for a Playstation 3.

The good:
It can keep up with your fingers, good rate of fire.
Cheap. It's a decent speedball gun for under $300.
can be upgraded easily

The bad:
Feedneck-AWFUL won't hold hopper. I personally upgraded to a clamping one almost immediately
Grip-Had to upgrade to softgrips b/c it got hard to hold on to the gun
Air-THIS THING SUCKS AIR. my 48/3000 runs out after about 500 balls. I know it's a small tank, but i should still be able to get half a case out of it.

The ion xe was my first marker and was a good begeiner but now im starting to go play more and im wanting a better gun like a invert mini or better. So if you were going to get an ion xe i would suggest you save a little more money and go with a mini. Also smart parts went out of buisness there are still smarts parts but you dont get smart parts customer service. Gog paintball took over smart parts and they make a gun very similar to the ion xe its called the gog ectasy.

Smart Parts Ion XE The ion is a great gun once it has all the proper parts, luckily you can find a fully upd ion for next to nothing and have a great shooting marker.
