Comes in Clear, smoke, black, Steel blue, or chameleon green. These are older JT masks that use the spectra lense system. Low profile, 2 piece construction.

Appearance: This is one ugly mask and there aren't a ton of color choices, that's all I can say as for appearance.
Performance: This mask does a pretty descent job over covering your face, but as with the pro-flex getting hit in the face while wearing this mask is not fun. Also I have let friends who have larger profile faces barrow this mask and it does not completely cover their chin, for small profile faces it works just fine however.
Reliability: The lens on these masks scratch and crack with relative ease. The mask does however do its job and prevent your face from coming in direct contact with paintballs.
Value: At one time this mask may have been somewhat worth it, but in all honesty you'd have to be a fool to buy this mask at full price over a set of Dye i3 pros.

I got the chameleon blue-purple version that came with the Sportz-Comm module.
The Proteus uses the JT Spectra lens system. You can get a new Spectra lens pretty much anywhere, but the down side is I find it very hard to take out/ insert a Spectra lens compared to other systems. There's a rubber frame for the lens, and the lens has tabs that fit into holes in the frame, but the frame's rubber is tough to stretch (for good safety reasons) and that's where the difficulty lies.
The mask itself has the aforementioned frame, lens, visor, and the mask itself made from soft plastic top and rubber bottom. There's a circular ear piece on each side that you can rotate to hear better from the direction of your choosing. I doubt anybody is going to use that, but it's just one more feature the mask offers.
With the Sportz-Comm modual you take out the ear pieces and replace them with the speaker moduals, there's a mic you can clip inside the mask and audio plugs are located on one of the speakers. This works for both walkie talkies and music players. Not the greatest quality speakers but there's nothing like communicating with your out-of-sight teammates in a large woodsball game without yelling, or starting a game listening to March of the Valkyries.
Other than that, I find the foam pretty soft and comfy. It's also a small mask so it gives a small target for your opponent. I've heard about people getting shot in the chin while talking, but I've never experienced it myself.
My friend borrowed it when he first played. he wears glasses and says he favors this mask over my Proto Switch, so that's another plus, I guess.
Appearance: it's color choices are flashy as hell. It even has a clear one!
Performance: the lens system is not the easiest to work with, otherwise it's all good.
Reliability: it has all the usual: chin strap, visor, etc but the small profile might not be favorable for guys with big heads.
Value: if you can find it these days it's probably $50. It's a good starter mask.

I bought one of the green chameleon maks in 2004.
these are great masks that never cuaght on when JT was producing them. they have a low profile, a soft rubber skirt around the bottom, fleixble mask matierial, one peice construction, exlding the frame and lense.
they breathe well, you can hear well, and people can hear you. it uses the spectra lenses so changing them sucks, but they are readily available.

I bought it with a fan, and it still fogged after some summer woods play. Not a bad mask if you run into one for a bargain, but there are much better for the price (Profiler).

This mask's looks are a love it or hate it situation. I personally think it looks pretty cool, and the rarity of it is a perk to me. It certainly doesn't fit in with the other masks in the game, and most people are utterly confused when you wear it. The mask is very compact and tight to the face. My only problem with it is that the rotating ear disks don't work very well. You certainly don't want to adjust them in the middle of a game. This is the only mask I've ever had difficulty hearing out of.

JT Paintball Proteus 2I used to wear this mask all the time, but it never appealed to the looks of what I preferred. Great options with flex compatibility.
