Relatively oldschool EP gun, made as a lighter and faster gun after the success of the Shocker 4x4 (however the guns differ a lot in operation, reached peak popularity around 2003,discontinued in 2006)

Fast, simple to maintain, lots of aftermarket part
Cons:
size, looks if its not PL
I bought my Impulse in September, it is a Rat Jr. This thing rips. I was a little disappointed with the stock efficiency, however, as well as the lack of vision. The huge availability of aftermarket parts and upgrades is a tremendous advantage, as they have come down in price.
Everything can be upgraded, the board, all the internals, lpr, front cap, detents, feedneck...etc
The stock nonvision board is capped at 13 bps to avoid chopping, but that should be upgraded relatively inexpensively. a vision setup will run between $30 for a sp crickit vision board and $90 for a WAS equalizer board.
My imp weighs in at around 2 lbs. my whole setup is about 8lbs with a full 68/45 and a full empire B
a Fully upgraded PL imp should be around $200-$250, while stock internaled PL and stock bodies will run you around $80-$120
Pros: Simple to maintain, limited maintenance, but lots of room for tinkering. Shoots fast, has a lot of available upgrades for not too much money. You get a little respect for shooting an old school gat. Stock reg is pretty consistent. Many opportunities for custom milling.
Cons: A bit tall. Can be heavy for small children and (little)front players. Stock efficiency(~900 on a 68/45), stock body is kinda brickish

Well this was my 3rd gun, i bought it from a friend about 6 onths ago for $125, i thought i was getting a pretty good deal out of it, (came with an eggy 2)
However there really isnt very much good i can say about it.
it was very accurate ripping, but just shooting slowly accuracy wasnt impressive at all. it was fairly fast (maxed at around 13bps).
I had a lot of problems with reliability (it wouldnt shoot half the time) and
it being inefficient. it also chopped a ton, but it didnt have eyes which was probably most of the problem.
it maybe ok if you dump some money into a good board, lpr, and other ups, but stock, non-vision it disappointed me

Started using this back in 2006, was a great marker.
Numerous upgrades were available and there were tons of ways to customize it. The vision was actually decent when I had them, aside from dark colored paint which my field didn't have much of.

I bought a RAT impulse back in the day, around 2003-2004
Back then the impulse was sick
Today (2011) it is more of an antique or collector's item
There were alot of available upgrades for them, lpr, tapeworm, bolts, boards, feednecks, asa, frames, triggers, almost all of it could of consisted of upgraded parts.
Also there were a TON of private labels allowing for some form of uniqueness.
Having vision of the impulse was pretty much a must.
Back then it was not too heavy, kinda typical heavy. Today it is like carrying a solid 5 lb. weight constantly (that doesn't even include the hopper or tank) It's kinda blocky and massive.
the Sound signature was not too bad, today it is considered loud.
efficiency used to be good, today it is sub par
It is still crazy fast and accurate.
Consistency was around +/- 8ish not too shabby back then
It's not too shabby, get yourself one

The 2004 SP Impulse is one of the best guns I ever used. I shot one between 2004 and 2006. They are extremely accurate guns, although heavy compared to newer model guns (2008+). The Blue Light Cricket board does the job with a sole semi auto mode.
Necessary upgrades on the Imp include a new trigger, on/off and feed neck. Other than that this would make a great gun for someone getting into paintball. You could easily secure one for under 100 nowadays.
