The most popular gun ever. This gun changed paintball in many diffrent ways. It made a reliable cheap paintball gun that can be upgraded to the max. With many Tippmann siblings the 98 custom revolutionized paintball still to this day.

But anyway some nice things about the 98 is that A.C.T. comes stock on most models and that their easy to take apart and clean.
Another somewhat nice detail is that its a brick not kidding.
You can spike this marker into a tree,put it two feet underwater,pull it out gas it up and it'll still shoot.
Some problems are the closed bolt makes it a little more difficult to clean then i prefer and the stcok barrel makes it pretty inaccurate.
And one thing that really isn't a bad thing about the marker but there are just too many floating around.
But overall I'd say go pick up this marker if your a woodsballer or a noob

Everyone else has pretty much said it. If you can break one of these you have magical powers and you have to try to break paint. I dont have act and I have never chopped a ball, I've out shot my hopper and not choped or broke any balls. It is really a great gun. Just everyone thinks you are a newb. Then if you're cool you open up at them at 30 bps with the e-grip(that you upgrade it with). Then ask thier opinon again.

Cons: slow, stock barrel sucks, long, heavy, not the most air efficient
This marker is great, you can customize it in so many ways. It's extremely durable i've dropped mine, smacked it against trees and bunkers. The field i play at they rent these, they look like crap but they perform like new. This is great for beginers, woodsball players, or someone who wants a good gun but doesn't want to too overly much for it. Great gun, highly advise against using it for speedball though.

This is an excellent beginner gun. At the price it is currently at I recommend it for someone going cheap.
If you actually want to consider hitting your target you need to get a new barrel though, which could add up to 80$ making it about 200-220$. So you might as well buy a better quality gun.
Appearence: UGLY. This is not a marker that is meant to look good.
Performance: OK. With a new barrel it has great accuracy with zero chops. It is missing a double trigger and needs to become lighter.
Reliability: Easy! Indesructible. An adam bomb can't destroy this thing.
Value: It's a good price. But I highly recommend saving up an buying a better marker. Even 40$ can get you a Vibe.
Other stuff: This is meant for woodsball and is extremely customizable. One thing about customizing is that it is a rip-off. Might as well buy a nicer marker than customize it.

I have had my gun for about a year now and it is a very reliable gun. It can be customized so much it is not even funny. if you are looking for a good gun to start out playing woodsball with you can't beat a tippmann. you can run a tippman off co2 or nitrogen and can be made to look like almost any asault rifle you can think of. Ofcourse it is heavy but you can buy a remote coil so you can but you co2 tank in your pod pack and you are all set. it is good on air and paint and if you have any more questions about it you can just pm me and I will be happy to help you, and if I don't know right away I can probably find out. I am sorry if the stars did not show up but I would give it a 4.5.

At some places I've played at where Tippmann 98 customs they used Hpa 3000 psi, at 15 yards plus my suit could deflect the rounds with out breaking, i called myself out at first but then a later game, after getting 12 rounds to my legs 0 breaking and being able to elimanate 3 of the 7 members of the opposing teams makes it a bit flawed with the velocity set high enough suits like mine will take a hit and break
