The most popular gun ever. This gun changed paintball in many diffrent ways. It made a reliable cheap paintball gun that can be upgraded to the max. With many Tippmann siblings the 98 custom revolutionized paintball still to this day.

i have owned a tippmann 98 custom platinum pro for 3 years now and i finially decided to post a review. This gun is incredible. When i think of woodsball, this is the first gun that comes to mind. No other gun that i know of can take a direct hit to a foot thick pine tree. This gun is a tank, it looks intimidating and packs a punch. But the only downside is that every newbie to paintball owns it. I wish it was treated as a crappy newb gun like it is where i live.

i bought my tippy in 2005 and its worked great since the day i got it... you can customize it a bagillion diferent ways and feel like you actually put this gun together. not something that you paid 400 dollars for that looked cool but you actually spent the time and money to make it your own. but that has a down side as well after you make it your own tippmann you realize that you spent all that money and time you realize that you could have bought a nice high end gun for that price that can shoot a lot faster, better, more efficient, and a lot easier to take apart. which brings me to my next downside... taking the gun apart this is one of the biggest hassels with all the pins and springs that can go flying whenever you take your gun apart and dont even get me started on the front sight because that thing can really get on your nerves... the worst part about taking the gun apart though has got to be when you clean it and take everything out then you put everything back in except for one little pin so then you have to unscrew all five bolts, make sure you have all your parts that might have gone flying somewhere just to put back in one little pin. and sometimes it doesnt go on right so you have to just tighten those bolts to make everything snap into place but its a tippmann so you can beat it up. lol. customizable extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely customizable. my tippmann probably cost me all together about 500-600 dollars you can get a cyclone, a response trigger, a stock, a drop forward, an expansion chamber, a new barrel(flatline is amazing), egrip, a new sight, new bolts or powertube, new trigger, shrouds, bipod. just goes on and on.
best upgrade...HPA tank it will make your marker shoot much much better and consistent and try to get the biggest size tank you can remember you get 10 shots for every cubic inch on 3000psi and 15 shot for every cubic inch on 4500psi

For appearence, you really cannot say much, it just doesn't look that good, but don't judge it on that alone.
Performance, well, I rated it so highly because when I pull the trigger, it always shot, and with my upgraded barrel, it shot well. May not do 15 bps, but with this, you can forgive.
Reliability is crazy. Never had a chop, only ball breaks. And when it had its ball breaks, it still shot fine. But, my father happened to run over my 98C with his van, and I was scared to be honest, but when I gassed it up and shot, it was fine. That is amazing stuff there.
I rated Value so low because re-sell value sucks. But, if you are just a monthly paintballer, this works perfectly for you.
