Cons: heavy, inconsistant
The 98 custom was my first paintball marker and I loved it, I got it for Christmas when I was 9 and thought it was so cool. especially with my 24oz co2 tank but I soon came to realize that the 8" stock barrel was garbage and my paint was going all over the field so I bought a 14" for it and noticed a world of difference. Later upgrades were a double response trigger and upgraded my internals.

The '98 custom is a tank and will still work even after a train runs it over. The thing is unbreakable.

Pros: Highly reliability
Cons: Low-end and expensive to upgrade
This was my FIRST marker, I got this when I was bothering my parent about getting a paintball gun. They gave me this paintball gun when it was christmas. I would say, it's VERY GOOD for beginners to pick this gun up as their first gun. They're very reliability gun and low-end. I upgraded my custom 98 with e-trigger, it improved the performance of custom 98 a big time. Con about e-trigger, it's expensive to get one. It costs about 1 hundred dollars to get one, but it's worth for ppls that looking for improve their custom 98. I upgraded ASA and trigger as well. Unfortnately, this gun got stolen by somebody. Good-bye custom 98, I got some great time with you.

It's a good gun to start with if you play a lot with friends in the backyard or play a lot of woodsball. Plenty of upgrade options so you can upgrade as you go. Can have enough upgrades for speedball, but not really what its for. By the time you have enough in it for speedball could have got a different good. I give it a thumbs up over all

Tippmann Sports Tippmann 98 Custom I used to use this gun all the time (until it broke). It lasted 5 of my youth years and I never lubed it at all, which is probably why it broke.

Pros: It just wont die!
Cons: pain to clean
The 98 custom was my first gun 8 years ago, i bought it used from a friend who had it for 3 years. i've upgraded to several different markers since then that came and gone but i still have that tippmann... and it still shoots like new. Its not the most high end gun, but if u want to get into the sport, a tippmann is the way to go. My 98 is over 11 years old and i still keep it close. As the name suggests its very customizable and it can take a beating and still keep firing. If it ever chops paint, opening the gun to lube it or clean it was always a pain, but i'll always love my 98 and it'll probably be with me for as long as i play the sport.

Pros: Great marker for woodsball, upgradable
Cons: Barrel
Had this marker for about a year and a half and it's great! I upgraded mine to an e-grip with an APE Rampage board, Halo Too loader, CP drop forward, and a J+J 16" ceramic barrel. Now this thing is very accurate. If you get one, first thing you should do is get rid of the stock barrel.

Pros: Reliable, pretty much the AK-47 of Paintball
Cons: Uses C02, Stock Barrel
My review of the Tippmann 98 is going to be short and sweet. The Tippmann 98 for how much it costs is an amazing marker. I have played with mine in virtually every kind of weather you can imagine (Negative temperatures, rain, etc.) and it and has pulled through time after time again. It is perfect for woodsball, scenario games, and just going out and having a great time with friends. The Tippmann 98 has a large variety of upgrades. The only upgrade i have made to mine is purchasing a new barrel which ended up costing me 36$. Best investment i have made for this marker. I can constantly shoot threw a 3inch hole. I would not recommend this marker for speedball, it just isnt meant for super fast passed games.

All and all. Great gun. I have no intention of getting rid of mine. And buy them used online for really cheap, as loaner markers. You really cant go wrong with one. Gets the job done.

This is the perfect gun for the new player that doesn't want to do any maintenance. it was a little difficult to take apart for the first time when I just started but it is rarely necessary for you to take it apart.

if you get upgrades, i would suggest a better barrel, cyclone hopper, and a double trigger (I like double triggers better). I love loaning this gun to friends because it is so simple to use and doesn't have problems so long as i clean it and lube it once in a blue moon.
