I played with a tippman 98c countless number of times and I gotta say, this is one of the most reliable markers I have ever used, the thing is a tank. Out of the box the thing is pretty accurate as well. But if you throw on a new barrel (J&J is what I used) this thing is spot on. So all in all, this is a perfect starter marker or great for woodsball.

Cons: short barrel
this is the best gun i have ever owned. the only bad thing is that the barrel is tiny so i bought 16 inch tactical sniper barrel (highly recommended). i also got a stock for it, a red dot sight, an adjustable rail sight, a new grip, and a bipod. i have an estimated amount of 200 dollars into the gun and every penny is worth the gun. i highly recommend this gun for anybody who plays paintball.

Tippmann Sports Tippmann 98 Custom Great starter gun. Will never ever ever break down. Drawbacks are obvious, but for a person just getting started, you couldn't pick a better gun.

Tippmann Sports Tippmann 98 Custom Great gun for the price. Easy to upgrade and decent after market. Takes a beating and keeps going. It's like a real hummer, not a h2 or h3.

I run around with a 98C I bought used from Global paintball in 2001, it came with the RT trigger and the flatline barrel.
1) Flatline work, and does what it says.
2) RT when set right allows me (old guy) keep up with my sons fancy stuff.
3) Eleven plus years old and still rocking how is that for value and reliability!

Tippmann is known for quality entry level and mil-sim type markers. Ignore the fact you can buy these at Walmart and Kmart- unlike the crap brass eagle puts out these guns could be family heirlooms!
Along with quality these guns have umpteen different upgrades and bolt on configurations. For someone into woods ball this could be your first and only marker if you so desired!

Pros: cheap, durable, unbreakable
Cons: heavy, inconsistant
The 98 custom was my first paintball marker and I loved it, I got it for Christmas when I was 9 and thought it was so cool. especially with my 24oz co2 tank but I soon came to realize that the 8" stock barrel was garbage and my paint was going all over the field so I bought a 14" for it and noticed a world of difference. Later upgrades were a double response trigger and upgraded my internals.

The '98 custom is a tank and will still work even after a train runs it over. The thing is unbreakable.

Pros: Highly reliability
Cons: Low-end and expensive to upgrade
This was my FIRST marker, I got this when I was bothering my parent about getting a paintball gun. They gave me this paintball gun when it was christmas. I would say, it's VERY GOOD for beginners to pick this gun up as their first gun. They're very reliability gun and low-end. I upgraded my custom 98 with e-trigger, it improved the performance of custom 98 a big time. Con about e-trigger, it's expensive to get one. It costs about 1 hundred dollars to get one, but it's worth for ppls that looking for improve their custom 98. I upgraded ASA and trigger as well. Unfortnately, this gun got stolen by somebody. Good-bye custom 98, I got some great time with you.
