Proto Paintball Proto Matrix 6 (PM6) Ribbon eyes suck, its huge, the eye covers are hideous, sucks on air, leaks in the cold. The bulky size makes it shoot pretty smooth tho.

Pros: Very reliable, easy to clean, easy to use,
Cons: difficult to reassemble after taking it apart.
I have had this gun for over two years now and I love it. It's fast, low profile, and it's reliable. I have had a few troubles with the gun, but those were because I took the regulators apart and I didn't know how to put them back together. The bolt is super easy to take apart clean/lube and put back together. The gun itself is an all around great product. It could be used for rec ball and I even seen some pros use it.

Proto Paintball Proto Matrix 6 (PM6) This has been my workhorse marker for 5 years. Now I am finally having maint issues, but it has served me very well. Lucky Spitfire board really woke this gun up and made it a beast

Pros: Great value for price. Very reliable.
Cons: efficiency
Setup:
Olive PM6
Ultralight frame
UL barrel

My first move was to buy the ultralight frame. New frame is super comfortable and board has all the modes you need on it. I couldn't image the gun without it. Other than that, the gun has little kick so it's easy to shoot accurately and get good strings of paint on your target. Cleaning and lubing the gun (bolt) is recommended after every day of play or every other which can be a pain but it's really not that big of a deal. You will also have to fill up after every game pretty much because of the poor efficiency which is not a huge deal at most fields. For the price it is a fantastic gun. Super reliable. I have never had a problem with it in the few years that I've had it.

Pros: Weight, upgrades, price, feel in your hands
Cons: original frame, ribbon eyes, hyper 2 (imo)
Ask any Proto Matrix owner what they think of their gun and they'll tell you that is is nearly as good as their Dye Matrix counterparts. The reason is that Dye (Proto) put as much love an care into their PM line as they did their DM line. I'll admit, the original frame for the PM6 is not the greatest, but after upgrading to the Ultralite Frame, it feels like a marker worth 3X what i paid for it.

After all the upgrades i have put into mine, the total tab is $290. The upgrades i would reccomend getting, in order of importance:
  • UL Frame
  • Clamping Feedneck
  • Barrel
  • Ironman trigger
  • Regulator

As far as maintainence goes, the PM6 is as easy to work on as spoolies come. EXCEPT FOR THE HYPER 2. Many people have driven themselves crazy and ultimately destroyed the regulator in attempts to open it up and clean it. I suggest to just get another regulator. CP shorties and torpedos are what i reccomend.

In conclusion, this marker will serve you as well as most of the high ends out there today, and if you pick one up at the prices they are at right now, you will have no regrets.
