Great gun, easy to clean and work with. Only thing was it felt a little awkward. This was my second Bob Long gun, and I was impressed with the simplicity. 4 eyes is a waste, you don't need it, the gun works very well with two. The feedneck was still an issue for me. The gun is very thing, and the thing works. Easy to turn on and off. It's the cheaper little brother to the vice, and meets all the needs for that price range. The board does everything you need it to do.

New feedneck and asa is all the gun needs, out of the box it's fast and efficient stock. Just have some q-tips to clean paint out of the cuts of the gun.

Performance:
Kick- Dont confuse this Timmy with anyother. It is SMOOTH out of the box. I shoot 13.3 in psp so I have little to no barrel lift on mine...

ASA- It is a Peice... I hate it, Not as bad as the SP duckbill but junk non-the-less, Your tank is really hard to take off without a Bleeder...

Consistency- +/- 4 out of the box for mine, Now that might not be the case for other guns but I dont touch the gun's setting or regs before I shoot it...

Efficiency- really efficient gun. I got 7 pods and a hopper the 1st day i used it with no break in period....

Board- Not the best board because you have to open the grips to change modes, but it does have all the modes you need and you can Cap your rate-of-fire...

Maintenance: Nice and easy, for awhile just lube the Bolt and Ram put it back in and your done. They say 10 cases and Break the gun down and lube it all. But it will maintain like a Ego.....

Manual: WTF is that.. It dont come with one.. If you order a Protege save the manual to your desktop or just print it out because your not going to get one...

Overall: This is a Great gun for the price. It shoots fantastic. It is a Tournament ready gun. You get what you pay for in this gun. If it had a Clamping feedneck and the same or similar board as the Vice, They would prolly never sell a Vice i think. If you dont have the 750 for the Vice then this is a great buy for the money.

There CS is AMAZING !!! I call and talk to them for minor issues on my other Timmys and the Tech's will walk you thru it. Or you can just send it in because MOST of the work they preform is free.. Call them and find out..

Cons: Not Much At All
This gun is simply amazing. I feel the bang for the buck in this gun is great, its efficient, and all you can ever ask for.

Performance- Fast, Consistent. The speed it is capable of is like any other marker. It shoots fast, and limited by your fingers. The regulator I like as well. It performs nicely.

Efficiency- Its not a spoolie. That just about sums it up. I got around 2,200 shots on a 4.0K fill. It lasts forever. I feel efficiency really is the main component on why I beleive Timmies, ecspecially the Vice and Protege are top of the line guns.

Upkeep- No hoses, not many orings. This gun is compatible for anybody. Although it has no manual, you can get one online. Just maintain it as you would any gun. If you do however decide not to do it regularly, it'll still run great.

Customer Service- I know Bob Long will help you with anything. BLAST simply has the best staff in paintball.

I HIGHLY Reccommend this gun to anybody. Its quite a gun.

Protege. I came back into the paintball scene and bought a Protege.

Pros:
VALUE/PRICE- Want a marker that performs and shoots as well as an 07 Ego? Protege is your marker AND YOU SPEND ABOUT $200+ less!!!!
Fast- What marker isn't. Supposedly shoots on par with an ego 7.
4c eyes- compatible. $50 more and you can shoot faster and more consistent!!!
Quiet- Once you have the LPR tuned and set right (70psi) and have the marker broken in, its VERY quiet.
Efficient- 1800-1900 on a 68/4500 once reg is broken in.
Reliability/Simplicity- This is the simpliest and easiest Intimidator to maintain. If you take it apart, you can see it's very organized and there aren't hoses everywhere.
Kick- Again, once the LPR is tuned and the marker is broken in, there's hardly any kick! Will shoot SMOOTH. The Protege has less kick than the other generations and is said to have the same amount of kick as the gen4's..if not then less.
Weight- Very light. About 1lbs 14oz. without the barrel

Cons:
No on/off- I'd rather it come with an on/off, even the cheaper Cam drive which is $40.
No manual- Many ppl were *****ing about this.
Looks- This is subjective but I think it doesn't look aggressive enough. It looks similar to the Alias, but I think the Alias looks better.
Colors- Only Silver, black, red, blue

Suggestions: I'd like to see a color/accent kit for this.

First thoughts:

Picking up the gun for the first time; I thought this was the best $550 MSRP gun out there. I am not a huge BL fan, but thought performance wise WOW ... looks wise ... ehhh

Performance:

Kick- Not much barrel rise at sustaining 15 bps. Very sm-ooth shooting with minimum vibration.

Weight- #1 question ... Yes, it's light and balance. Yes, like an Ego .. but not as balanced .. yes, you can hold it

Accuracy- Yes Bore/Ball match ... not real believer in that .. always felt how good the surface of the hone was led to better accuracy, but the Assassins barrel sucked with the Alias and it sucks now .. stupid 12" ..

Definitely replace it with any 14" 2 piece, over bore, and put on a Tall T .. then you are set to be an Assassin .. just like I did for this review

Consistency- +/- 5 fps which is the norm in high end guns

Efficiency- Biggest + on the marker. On a 4000psi fill, I shot 10 pods and roughly half hopper (thankfully not in one game) with about 50 psi left.. This marker wasn't mine so it was already broken in with about 3 cases ..

Breaking Paint- I didn't chop all day. Of course I was shooting great RPS paint .. nice shell not brittle at all but broke on anything .. I don't see this marker being a Blender.

Feedneck- it doesn't come loose easily, but wouldn't it be easier to make a clamping feedneck?? I dislike the one on it with a passion.

Board- has all the modes I need, and works great except you have to hold the trigger down then turn the gun on to turn off the eyes.

Maintenance:

Another strong point especially over DM's, A1's, and Marqs. A little oil on the Ram, a little Dow here and there', and you are set until you reach about 20,000 shots where you SHOULD break it down and lube some of the valve orings ...

Manual:
Now here comes the FTL part ... NO MANUAL ... so how do you know to do this and that ... unless you read the stickies (which about everyone skips and posts a problem) or don't use PBN? How long has this gun been out? How long has the Marq been out? I haven't seen a NIB manual for it either!!! definitely bad

Reliability:

Here comes my Rant .. This marker is a Month old ... the screws literally are falling out of the frame because they weren't tapped properly .. Not just the frame screws ... even the grip frame screws! ... Turn around time on a marker from BL is about 4-5 wks from experiences with teams guns, my guns, to friends guns. Getting an update on their status is difficult.

HOWEVER the service and repair done is definitely one of the highest grades in the industry and may or may not be worth the wait depending on your backup. I hear it is one guy that is horribly overworked.

If you go to an event (PSP,NPPL) they fix it quickly for you .. bc they know working equipment counts .. I think in Chicago they fixed my player's Marqs twice in less than 10 minutes .. that was some brutal weather/mud

Reliability Cont'

For some weird reason these markers seem to have small issues like it's their time of the month .. shooting inconsistent, shooting
stutters ... but easily fixed stuff ..

OVERALL:

The ASA is a big complaint from many, but really it doesn't bother me for $550 .. it is personal preference. I can see how easy it is to just make an on/off ASA and put out a quality product! I much rather have BL raise the price $50 and fix the FN and ASA issue. As for the barrel, that should be replaced no matter 12" or 14" .. it's junk . I know you are thinking then their would be no excuse to buy a Vice. Tadao and milling make the Vice's selling points IMO. Raise the Vice price $50 and put an on/off !!! It just makes the gun more complete ... OR just don't include a barrel and keep the price

Still $550 dollar gun that really competes with $1000 dollar guns .. Yeah!! Don't think you will be disappointed in this markers "working" performance.

OK you BL FAN BOYS STOP SENDING ME HATE PM's because I rated this gat 3.5 stars ..I honestly believe that is the correct score of the working marker .. psh swear like I made a your Mamma joke

alright so i bought this marker of art mendoza at his shop, i was first going to get it for 500, but since im cool with him, and i bought some gear off of him previously, he sold me this marker for 475. Im telling you this marker is amazing. in the chrono it shoots 2+/-. Mine is completely stock except for a red cp 1 piece 14inch .689 bore barrel. the things you might consider getting is the bob long clamping feedneck, the bob long on/off asa, and a pillow bolt. this thing is super efficient, i shot a hopper and wasted like 100psi. i am using a dxs68/45 hp, and a vlocity jr. when you want this marker to shoot fast, it shoots more than ropes, it shoot lazers. this marker compared to vice is barely anything, milling, bolt, feedneck, board, back cap and lpr. so do yourself a favor, buy this gun, and spend under a 100 bucks on buying a bolt and feedneck. that is it.

Just played with protege for the first time this weekend and let me tell you the gun impressed. While the gun is nothing radical or new, it does perform with the best of guns out there. It is lightweight, efficient, accurate, and fast. I have shot plenty of other guns and this shoots as well if not better than all of them. I am going to keep this gun even if it is a little ugly.

Well this gun is absolute amazing, i suggest anyone that wants a great marker for cheap to get this gun.

But i had a few promblems, i bought it on ebay for a pretty cheap price.

Well come 3 weeks after i bought it i go to the field, go to chrono and the dang velcity would not go below 400 fps

So i sent it into Blast, thinking they will fix. BUT THEY DID NOT.

I HATE BL TECHS the did a horrible job, so i just bough a new reg.

Not one promblem since, amzing gun.

Only upgrades i suggest is pillow bolt and a better barrel.

The new Protege has been updated from the "Dipswitch" setting. The new board that now comes stock in the Protege is much like that of the Bob Long Vice ($750). There are no instructions on Bob Long Direct as of yet but the techs at Bob Long are working on that now. However, I have them and here they are:

Another great thing about the new Protege is that it comes with a 14" barrel instead of the 12" assassin. The barrel shoots much like the Dye Ultralite and is extremely light weight.

Using the stock barrel, 20 BPS cap, semi auto, Dye 09 Rotor, Eyes On (2c), 35 yards away, the splatter was about 8 inches in diameter. This was done in fair weather, no wind, and with All Star paint. I put 360 +- balls through and no breaks.

Also the ASA that comes on the gun is adjustable either forward or backward to adjust for your personal arm length to tank ratio.

Feedneck sits super low on the gun and will easily fit all hopper necks. No need for a new feed neck.

Hope this helps.
