Previous Year's Dye Matrix, the Proto line was a genius idea by Dye to get 2 years out of their "high end" markers. Sell it for a rediculous price the first year with a Dye logo (aka Audi logo) then sell the exact same gun the next year at $300-400 off with a Proto logo (aka Volkswagen logo).

Nothing wrong with this gun. Each year it got better and better. Easily my favorite gun besides old Timmys.

Proto Paintball Proto Matrix 7 (PM7) Used this gun for three years. I think they are drastically under priced. They are not the smoothest shooting by todays standards but otherwise perform very reliably.

Pros: Quiet, light, accurate
Cons: Nothing major
I owned this gun for about a month and it show beautifully. It was accurate, light, and didnt make a lot of noise when I fired it.

However, at about 4 weeks, I ran into a leak problem from my bolt housing. I replaced all the O-rings, lubed the bolt, and still had a leaking problem! I did everything I could, but eventually my bolt housing slid almost an inch out the back of the gun, stripping threads and making the gun unusable and unfixable.

From what I've heard, this is a very rare problem, but still one that should be addressed in a review.

Pros: Fast, accurate
Cons: ASA o-ring, interior trigger adjustment
I bought this gun in 2008 and have used it ever since. It's fast, accurate and reliable.

The good: I'm not sure I've ever chopped a ball in this gun since I bought it. It's fairly quiet and I can get pretty good rates of fire for consistent amount of time. It's pretty accurate even with the stock barrel on it.

The bad: The o-ring in the ASA has to be replaced about once every 6 months. The trigger adjustment is internal so you have to take the grip frame off the gun to adjust the trigger then put it back together to see it it works. It's only a one time deal though. The ribbon eyes kind of suck but if you don't take the grip frame off often it's not a problem. Also, the consistency of the reg is pretty bad. When I chrono I get +- 10 psi.

Conclusion: This is a great mid-range gun. I would recommend it for anyone looking to spend $100-$300 on a gun.

Proto Paintball Proto Matrix 7 (PM7) A huge step up from say a DM6/PM6. I love the feel of it, feels great in the hands with an UL frame. Id say an UL frame is a must upgrade for this marker. Sucks in the cold tho, just what happens...

A huge step up from say a DM6/PM6. I love the feel of it, feels great in the hands with an UL frame. Id say an UL frame is a must upgrade for this marker. Sucks in the cold tho, just what happens when the temp drops.
