The Angel ir3 was the evolutionary jump for the company which discarded the larger cumbersome bodies of the LED / LCD and pursued both the goals of high end ergonomics and technology.

Pros: Fantastic looking marker with old school apeal
Cons: Doesn't hold it's own against modern electronics
This was my first electo back in the day, and new out of the box it was a beast.

I break it out once in awhile today, and it's still fine for recball, but for anything serious you can really tell the difference that 10 years of progress has brought to the game.

If you're looking for a gorgeous marker with serious old-school appeal, this is your baby.

The gun at its time back in 2002/3 was pretty much the best gun to have and also the most $$$$ i think selling for an MSRP of like $1499.00 but WOW they were awesome guns. Just sold my last IR3 Fly to a buddy back in 2008 Loved the classic 90 degree frame

Wdp is my favorite paintball company. It's sad that they were ran out of business. The angel ir3 had phenomenal and unmatched milling in my opinion. It shoots great (when it wants to) but overall it looks so nice I use it as a decoration. After all it is 10 years old.

Pros: Best available gun at its time
Cons: Impossible to obtain parts and tech yourself
Oh boy was this gun a huge learning experience! My first real high end in 2002 would have me in tears of frustration for most of its time with me. After learning that using a car battery jumper's outlet would over power and fry the battery I got to experience the grueling wonder that is tracking down the right parts. Only after that did I learn how difficult Angels can be to fix.

Fast forward through the pain and there was an incredible gun. With its awesome LCD display and words of encouragement for hitting 17-28 BPS I fell in love. It taught me patience of the highest degree - a 14 year old with a malfunctioning $1500 gun I worked months reffing to buy.

I would grow up to find out that all Angels are the same. It's a love/hate relationship unless you're blessed with a local certified tech to work out your marital issues.

Would I buy another Angel if they still existed? - Absolutely!

Pros: Erogonomics, Looks, Accuracy
Cons: C.O.P.S, Setting Up Can Be Difficult
The ir3 was truly the launch forward for WDP, and while having it's "gremlins" it brought about the rapid evolution which saw the company reach it's greatest heights.

What I loved most about this gun, was the "space" 90* Frame, which truly is a personal preference but one that I find is the most comfortable paintball frame on earth both past and present. While the "stack" or ram tube did house the same configuration of previous angels, the update to a super glide ram as well as more compact pneumatics meant a tighter smaller package and shooting was way smoother than previous WDP markers. With the ability to still intellifeed via the hopper, you could double up on paintball breakage / chopping protection along with the C.O.P.S which is the most prominent negative point of the gun. Because the C.O.P.S rod was so sensitive and prone to malfunction, the intellifeed saved the day on more than one occasion. The detents were strong but did wear easily.

Overall though it was a giant leap forward and worth a grade of A.

I bought an IR3 on ebay years ago non-working. Now while I really enjoy the gun now with all I have done to it, I am reviewing the stock gun as anyone else will be buying.

It, imo, has an ugly trigger frame. To each their own. Finish on Angels are great. Love it. They shoot pretty good. I believe it had the cops system stock. Which is susceptible to chopping, which did happen to me in the beginning. Really, not too bad a marker for its day and it really depends on how much you got it for.
As for mine, I cut the extra trigger frame bar out and sanded it smooth. Changed the grips, barrel, put on a volumnizer, sent it to Ken Crane and had it drilled for eyes, installed with a new A4 board. Of course It also came to me with a Dye breech door pin and knob, and I installed a ND ASA. It shoots really pretty good now. -OH, I forgot, I bought it not working. When I sent it away, I had Ken fix it. The solenoid was bad.

So, now I have about $550 in it total. It is banged up some and could use an ano job. Not sure if I will ever get around to it. It's all it needs. By the way, I bought this back in '04-ish? Never done anything to it but use it and lube it. Runs smooth. As with all my Angels, virtually maintenance free.
